Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

Just to make the point about so many selfish comments on social media, lamenting how it might affect attraction & events quality. Here's a truth that many don't accept, the quality of Alton Towers and the entire parks were hugely reduced years ago. Nick Varney is a clever businessman who knows e...

Re: Alton Towers: What Ever Happened to...?

Not true, Hex was different in its first year and from what I've learnt it had a slightly goofier story following the historian chap retelling the legend. I've heard outtake footage from the Hex V1 video exists in archives somewhere, but nobody's ever found the original film. Very little is known ab...

Re: The future of Nemesis.....

Using the recently uploaded TT aerial pic from 1994 I have planned out the old queueline, it was massive! Sorry to be pedantic but your graphic is incorrect, here's a plan I made of the old queue as it appeared in 1996. http://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff504/MrElectricBill/NemesisQueue_zpsac6b1f...

Re: John Wardley's autobiography out now

Although not related to the book, I've just found this 10 minute interview video with John Wardley That is the best and most personal interview I have ever seen with John Wardley. It shows how much he cares for poeple's enjoyment, whoever they may be. In fact, everything he stood for is pretty much...

Re: My old UK themepark photos (posted here)

Thank you. These photos are a rare glimpse into the theatrical magical dark rides of the past. This is particularly exciting as I have recently been doing a lot of research on Terror Tomb, and the Haunted House. Brilliant! The bridge monster in original colours... WITH ACTUAL TEETH! And look how far...

Re: New developments maybe

Many trees have been removed from across the park because of the recent diseases, it's not for a new ride.

Re: Chessington 2013, Zufari discussion

must say this ride has had no thought put into it at all Oh but it has. Zufari has taken five years of planning until Chessington got the budget to go ahead with it. They were banking on this being their breakthrough moment, to finally make best use of all that space at the back of the park and mar...

Re: X Sector Refurbishment

The Coca-Cola logo was just as bad as the Fanta one, just people rarely mentioned it because it had been there for so long. Rehydrator is still coated in Coca-Cola logos on all the walls, it's really intrusive (but bearable). The day the Rehydrator actually looks good, with a proper black colour sch...

Re: X Sector Refurbishment

I can't believe people haven't noticed the codes on the Oblivion supports before... Anyway, it's good they have been retained. As for the X-Cite signage, you are right it appears to have been put back now. I saw those white markings on the building and assumed it was where the paint had come off whi...

Re: X Sector Refurbishment

http://old.towerstimes.co.uk/news/system/data/upimages/X2.jpg The signage on X-Cite and X-Sell has been removed... I wonder what this could mean? Whatever they are doing I hope they appropriately redecorate the interior of that building. It's so ugly with all the weird chevron stickers peeling off ...

Re: What's going on in gloomy wood : duel queue line

This is just general maintenance. I don't see how replacing rotten fences and gardening has anything to do with a new ride?

That space is too small for a ride and its queueline, and would intrude on that nice link between Gloomy Wood and Katanga Canyon.

Re: What's going on in gloomy wood : duel queue line

Just come back from the towers today and noticed that in the old queue line for duel there has been trees cleared and the old fences that made up the winding route to the haunted house have been renewed. I was worried for a moment... I thought you said removed , rather than renewed. Well, thank goo...

Re: Burger Kitchen Inside Photos

It looks great, a huge improvement over Burger King.

And I like the classier style. Theme parks are often thought of as tacky places to eat so I am glad they have broken that mould.

Re: Ride designer John Wardley to retire

Sad news, especially to the fact that we all know what happened when he went away last time *cough* sub-terra *cough*  :D What do you mean? He still worked for Merlin when Alton Towers built Sub-Terra. But last time he retired after completing Air in 2002, the theme park took a turn for the wo...

Re: X Sector Refurbishment

The mist has worked fine for several years now, I'm not sure how you could miss it. It is turned on every day as part of the ride's start-up procedure. Whether it is as thick as it used to be is a matter of opinion, but it has been functioning properly for ages and still looks fantastic.

Re: Future of the SW Codename after Wardley??

Whether the SW name is associated with John Wardley or not is an interesting question. I don't think the Secret Weapon codename is John Wardley's signature, it is Alton Towers' signature on the whole. The designer is irrelevant really, especially since Wardley had a much smaller role in recent years...

Re: X Sector Refurbishment

Correct, they are reflectors for the camera. Nemesis and Air also have these on their respective photo points.

Ripsaw does too, although it doesn't have a camera anymore!

Re: X Sector Refurbishment

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere, that merlin have stated in the past, that the noise abatement order, was issued against Tussauds, and therefore, only applicable to them. Merlin have technically never been given an abatement order, and therefore don't need to comply. The way I understand it, Merli...

Re: Chessington 2013 Closed Season Updates

Regarding the Black Forest Chateau, if you look closely at this photo you can see they have started removing the boards that the facade is built on. You can see the steel frame of the building exposed towards the bottom. Oh well, at least we got to see one last glimpse of it before it disappeared fo...
