Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

I wonder if this terrible event will have any bearing on the Smiler? (Although on the surface it looks like it was down to the gent having no legs so no safe on a coaster with just a lap bar http://www.ladbible.com/now/weird-disabled-man-seriously-injured-after-falling-from-roller-coaster-20170414"...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

When the HSE announced the fine against Alton Towers last year, I didn't notice that there was a report in the Zip file attached to the press release http://press.hse.gov.uk/2016/alton-towers-owners-fined-over-smiler-crash/ . It is an expert witness report by Steven Flanagan, an independent consulta...

Re: Fireworks

Yesterday was the first time that I've ever been to AT for the fireworks, and I have to say that I was impressed, not just with the fireworks, but also with the way that the event was run, and the lengths that AT went to to ensure that it was a safe event for such a large crowd. Given how busy the p...

They could combine CATCF and NST into one ride to save costs. Toyland Terror, anyone?

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

Been twice this week and the projectors are always a niggle for me. They are never aligned and some not working. If they cant be aligned periodically i think they would be better changing them for something else We were on it now and I didn't notice the projectors on. Sent from my A0001 using Tapat...

Re: Duel and the Gloomy Wood - A future?

You want to be careful not to make it too scary. I'm certain I read that it was John Wardley's intention to make it a family-friendly, laugh in the dark ride. Anything liable to disturb young children would definitely be a step too far. Having said that, kids are a lot more resilient then we give th...

Re: Dreamworld Incident

A couple of AAP photos have been posted on the Coasterforce forums that show the tipped over boat http://www.coasterforce.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=975978#p975978 . There's also reference to a practice of queuing boats in embarkation area. My own speculation is that, for whatever reason, the boat o...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

I was at the park yesterday and most of the optical illusions in the enclosed queueline were working, however the projectors are slightly off alignment and focus. Still, it was a huge improvement over a previous visit this year when they had a powerful strobe going in there! The area could definitel...

Katie Hopkins has now weighed in on the latest non-incident on the Smiler: http://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/katie-hopkins-slammed-after-saying-8748029" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Hopefully we can transport her off to the USA like we did with Piers Morgan. Re: Derren Brown's Ghost Train - New for 2016

I've now been messed about with by Thorpe Park and Ghosttrain three times: delayed opening, massive screwup with the ticket promotion and now the attraction not being open for Summer Nights last Friday. Luckily I've managed to get on it once while it was working, so yay. But massively disappointed ...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

"Human error" is never the cause of an accident, but a symptom of an underlying problem. The Ladbrook Grove rail crash was a good example of that. It's easy to blame the train drivers for passing the signal at danger, or the signaller for failing to redirect the trains to avoid the collisi...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

The ride operators would be able to see the train has stopped, or else they wouldn't know to restart it. Not to mention that the train waiting inside the station would not be able to dispatch. I personally feel The Smiler's safety system is one of the most extensive there is. Until the HSE publish ...

I rode a Mondial Top Scan at Fantasy Island and it was... fierce. It was certainly a lot rougher than Samurai. A couple of times I got to the bottom inverted and was then launched upwards feet first.

Is SW8 confirmed to be a rollercoaster? I enjoy a good flat and there have been no decent flat rises added to the park since Hex.

Re: New Theme Park attraction(s) for 2016?

I don't understand how they can brand a restaurant as an attraction. Nobody is going to visit Alton Towers and pay the entry fee specifically to visit a restaurant and pay there again. Its not going to attract anyone so should it be called an attraction? I'd go specifically to experience it, so I g...

Fantasy Island, 25/07/2015

Lacking anything better to do this weekend, I went up to Fantasy Island to try out a couple of roller coasters that had been on my list for some time: Millennium and Jubilee Odyssey. Fantasy Island was opened in 1995 as something to do for the unfortunate masses that holiday in the area. It consists...

Re: On-Ride Breakdown Experiences

I got stuck on smiler for 10-15 minutes, right at the end of the ride. Fortunately it was a nice day and the staff were able to evacuate us directly onto the platform using the seat release battery box. The train behind us in the brake run wasn't so lucky and had to wait a lot longer. The most amusi...

Re: Alton Towers - General Discussion

I'm at the park this afternoon and it seems pretty quiet. I suspect that's more to do with the rain we had this morning, rather then recent events.
