The Merlin Annual Pass

Michelle, I hope they do honour it. After all I paid extra for the unlimited drinks... Not sure how a part refund would work (doubt they would upgrade us to better passes instead?).

The Merlin Annual Pass

I bought 4x annual pass gift vouchers in October with 12 months free refills included for all of them (worth £64 I suppose). I will redeem the GVs when the park opens in March 2014 (probably April because my wife is currently unable to go on coasters). Any ideas if I will get a 2013 or 14 capsule an...

Rameses' Revenge Incident

It is a bit worrying, normally there is a manual release to get the ride down and release the guests - obviously a more serious problem if they had to be cut out. The info is very sketchy - and some of it is plain wrong/ Merlin are not being upfront as usual. According to some sources the ride came...

Queue jumping? Have you ever seen anybody punished for it?

A couple of months ago 6 teens pushed through a 45 min Colossus Queue. I warned them not to, otherwise I'd report it, but they pushed right through to the platform. There were some very peed off guests. I ended up pushing through too apologising as I went and reported them (blatantly and loudly) to ...

It's relatively good news if the problem is with a car (as opposed to a design fault somewhere)...

So has The Smiler topped Nemesis?

Alton Towers have been very careful to get a good balance of different rides. Nemesis is a great example of an Inverted coaster - it's amazing because of the scenery, and because of some very good judgement and a little bit of luck. I love inverted coasters and that first little drop is amazing. The...

Re: The Smiler

I think the ride is absolutely epic, my daughter asked what it would have been like if it had the vertical drop. I reminded her that to get the full experience like any other Eurofighter, you'd need to run from the Smiler shop to the oblivion queue line. Shame they had to make that compromise becaus...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

I'm so scared that by time I get to go to AT and ride The Smiler later this year all the effects will not work, the foliage will be overgrown and it will already look dated. Someone reassure me :( Nah - I'd love to see it shiny and new but I think it will look great once everything has bedded in, I...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

I can see Alton Towers been forced to replace/highen every fence panel in the area. I said when they were putting the fencing up around the toilet area that they wouldn't be tall enough as they looked less than 7 ft high. Any guest over 1.4 could climb over that. I can't see it opening on Tuesday a...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Hmm H&S. If the building is finished, it should be safe if build to spec. If there's a defect with the ride, a gap that's x mm too wide between station and cars, or a wobbly support, yes there will be a problem. But if its a problem with 'signing off' then I'd bet its staff training / procedural...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

But guys the Alton Towers resort has over 50 rides and attractions! I know you say that in jest, but Merlin use this kind of excuse a lot. A bit like 'the MAP costs more this year because there are 2 more Sealifes' and 'the MAP individual sale price last year was £78 this year a family pass is £74 ...

Schmatt, I agree with you about seating. As a parentswap pass holder I get to hang around with a toddler a lot. Seating becomes essential!
