Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

If this image is right (if not 13th image down on TPC's Update) There is a sign as you enter the main building that says covers must be worn. Unless they have done something drastic in the station was the station not ready for the public anyway? http://i1367.photobucket.com/albums/r789/ThemeParkCol...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Time for some of my thoughts, (so much for my forum abstinence :P) As has been posted, Alton Towers would not have said the 23rd if they hadn’t have thought they could do it in time, but then of course an unforeseen problem cropped up which prevented them from fulfilling that promise. Having done th...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

A side note on the duelling aspect. I really hope everyone behaves whilst on the ride as in Florida the duelling dragons at ioa have not duelled in many years from the stupidity of a few. Why is it always the few that  ruin everything for the many! Bit OT, so feel to PM me, but exactly ...

One thing to note in this picture just posted: It looks like the track they were grinding down has been painted.

Re: To Spoil or not to Spoil. That is the question.

Basically, I think anything that we haven't seen or at least cant see from the area's available to the public now (views from the queueline, content in the Smiler app, inside the station, any extra effects inside that we don't know about) should be classed as spoiler material, and kept entirely to i...

Re: Best Value for Money Fastrack Combo

£70 to £80 on Fastracks!?!!? Are you mad? I've never bought a Fastrack ticket in my life, because I don't understand why people need them.  Just plan your day better. I'd probably agree with this sentiment if I was able to visit Alton Towers more than a few times a year, but for someone like m...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Those are definitely stage equipment boxes (often seen for lighting/sound equipment). I think I can make out the word 'Noise' on the side of it, possibly meaning that they contain speakers/sound equipment.

I wonder why they're being lifted by crane though?

Where is the smiler logo ?where in train

There's a chance they were taken off whilst the train was lifted into position. Would lower the risk of them being broken whilst being moved around and in transport.

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

To echo my current thoughts I've put on that video as a comment, I hope that the tickler motors aren't being spun at full power in that video (and that they ramp it up for later). At the moment, it does look a little melancholic in its operation and there's nothing really that intimidating about it,...

The Smiler - Marketing

Unsure if this has been shared here, but it's creepily awesome.

the pinch brakes are still on the vertical section, so nothing would be solved by this. if you already have an evacuation covered why would you spend such time and money doing this in addition?

Maybe because it's ultimately safer and faster than a rescue off the vertical lift?

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

We still talking about this whole lift/fins business?  Here's something I posted a little while ago with an added explanation: All these talk about launches and the like... I've devised what I think is the most likely solution as to why we're seeing magnetic brakes rather than a mechanica...

I think that's a protective film covering the letters over to protect them. They'll be removed before long, and the actual colour underneath will be revealed.

Nickelodeon I think still exists (though behind closed doors) in one of the buildings in Cloud Cuckoo land. There's a comprehensive article about it here:

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

I've recently been noticing many people who have been saying that there is no secret element simply because of the fact that 'it wasn't included in the game app, therefore it's unlikely to be a part of the ride.'. There are a couple of things I'd like to speculate about regarding this: Firstly, the ...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Excuse me. I need to enter a special frame of mind for what I'm about to say. HOLY ALTON TOWERS THEMING BATMAN!!! THAT MARMALISER IS A THING OF BEAUTY!!! Honestly, once the Marmaliser has more cladding, it's going to be the best piece of theming on park, without a shadow of a doubt (in my opinion). ...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

I think the coming weeks will be spectacular :) And John Wardley if you happen to be reading this... You are my hero. Well done, sir. Well done. Don't forget, this ride is mostly Candy Holland's project, NOT John Wardley's. John devised the basic layout for the ride, but the rest of it is Candy Hol...
