Re: Alton Towers - General Discussion

Well after readinng the feedback on here from their opening day I won't be visiting this year. Prices are ridiculously expensive and now parts of the park are opening late. I always used to start with the smiler then go on 13 and Rita to avoid ques but now I will have to wait in line for ages for ri...

Re: Alton Towers - Staff Attitude Compared to Other Places

The best staff I have come across is those at disney world. They all go above and beyond. I have always found alton towers staff to be great too, they all seem friendly but I never feel it's forced. Thorpe park are ok but I bit half arsed sometimes and they belatantly go slow I feel to sell fast pas...

Re: The Merlin Annual Pass

Last year I got to the point where chessington just got so samey (it's my local and I was going pretty much every week), so I decided to have a 2 month break from all theme parks, (3 for some) and when I went back, it was much better. You still get your money's worth because it pays for itself in w...

Re: The Merlin Annual Pass

Don't think I'm going to renew my pass this year. I enjoyed having it last year but don't think I'll visit enough this year to make it worth it. I enjoy the attractions but there's only so many visits before it gets a bit samey. Plus visiting Orlando's theme parks has put into perspective how UK the...

Re: Chessington 2013 General Discussion

I have never been to chessington. Both me and my fiancé are 25 with no kids. Is this worth a 2 hour drive? I've read some bad things about chessington mosty from trip advisor so don't know whether to give it a try or stick to thorpe park and alton towers

Re: Funfairs Or Theme parks?

I definately prefer theme parks. Fun fairs have a good atmosphere but they are just to kill a few hours and the rides are often not that great. If done well you can spend days at theme parks and the rides can be great. After you have been on a few rides at a fun fair it's often cheaper to go to a th...

Re: Colossus

I prefer colossus it's a lot less painful and it's 11 years older than the smiler! In 11 years time the smiler will be breaking necks. The smiler looks like a good coaster but when it comes down to it it's rough, not high enough, too compact and very unreliable

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

I have been on holiday for two weeks and seems like the smiler has too. I'm sorry but it's a huge embarrassment to alton towers especially as they are still advertising it.

Re: The BIG Alton Towers vs. Disney debate

Having just returned from a holiday in orlando I have to say merlin has a long way to go to be on the same level as disney, universal, seaworld. For me disney is the best theme park experience there is. They have extremely high standards and their customer service is great. Their attractions are als...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

Anyone care to hazard a guess as to what the queues will be like on Thursday? I thought it was still half term, but it turns out that it's just my sisters school that has a funny way of doing things! Mm,120 minutes, or 80 minutes :) What makes you think there will be a 2 hour queue? Kids are back a...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

I had organised a trip today not thinking it would be open so was very supprised when I saw it was open. Atmosphere was great today and I loved the Q and theming of the ride. My last trip here was only in April and the track wasn't built then - shocked at how good it looked. Back in April I thought ...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

I can see how it's annoying if you wanted to go for opening. But once it's opened 99.9% of people who go to alton towers won't know or remember it being delayed. I have a trip planned for next week. I was hoping that it would be open, but logically I always doubted it would be as on my last visit a ...

Went on this today, never done a scare maze before and didn't think it would be my thing. But I loved it, actors were great. It was creep and scary, made me jump lots of times. It's a shame they are not keeping it for long

Re: Alton Towers - Weather Closures

Just got back from a day out at alton towers today. Was a great day, the only rides shut were the log flume and mine train. Most rides were a 10 minute wait. Was cold but the best day the midlands has had for a while.

Re: Alton Towers - Weather Closures

Hi everyone,

I have brought a Merlin Anual Pass to be collected at alton towers. Was thinking of going either at the weekend or next week. Has anyone gone today? Were all rides open? Trying to see when the best day to go might be
