Re: Ride Closures/Removals in 2016

Might be me being pessimistic but when asked on twitter if the flume was going the reply was...
There will be changes to our 2016 line up as part of our Towers Loving Care programme but we will bring you more news asap

Sounds like a yes to me, otherwise why not just say no...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

Had a peak around today and it appears all Smiler trains have been removed from the site.

Could they be undergoing maintenance/changes? Even during the closed season trains aren't normally removed completely are they?

Why on earth would they need smoke machines?! Do the fireworks not generate enough :P

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

Alton Towers have just released their map for Scarefest and whilst The Smiler is on the map, it doesn't feature in the "X-Sector Attractions" area. Could this suggest we are unlikely to see it open until at least November? The picture of the ride is there, but it's not labelled. Probably ...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

It definitely is getting close now...

Although, I wouldn't start thinking "it could open tomorrow/any minute" until we see them testing the effects with it.

Re: Downtime 2015

Despite the "technical adjustments" spiel from Towers, I assumed it was closed because of cost (cost cutting, merlin..never...) But now it seems they don't intend to open it for Scarefest...surely if they were ever going to achieve the visitor numbers to justify the cost, it would be then....

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

Regarding those that said why didn't the general public phone the accident in...... Do you think that maybe Alton Towers and the emergency services have an agreement that they should only enter the site if a member of Alton Towers staff/management makes the call? Also, just out of interest, do you ...

Nemesis S-T still closed.... Should hurry up as 2 other 'thrill' rides (excl. Smiler) are closed on top of this!

Will be interesting to find out what they're doing in there - closed for two weeks I'm guessing it's more than a paint job!

Wonder why they've decided to do it mid-season too.

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

I think them accepting liability before the investigation is completed doesn't necessarily mean it was 100% their fault.

I think it's more of a public relations thing in the short run, until the investigation is completed. They may end up claiming the money back of Gerst.

Re: Downtime 2015

Looks like Sub Terra isn't having a great time! The Towers have said it "should be reopening this season"... For them to only be ale to say 'should' be fixed over a 5 month period, i'm guessing it's more than a fuse that needs changing... EDIT: They are now saying it is closed for a "...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

Devasting confirmation of the loss of a leg for one of the crash victims.

Just watched the Sky News report on this and they are clearly taking a very different approach than the earlier (Kay Burley) piece. They were ALMOST complementing Alton Towers/Merlin for how they handled the incident.

Definitely seems that the BBC Interview is much easier for him, with Sky more of a dress rehearsal :lol . Kay Burley is a disgrace, she clearly is just trying to slander Merlin as much as possible and squeeze a headline out of him. Sadly, she got one... "Alton Towers Boss: Safety Not Adequate&q...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

Interesting that they've closed 2 chessy rides too.

SAW has been understandably closed as being the same ride time (infinity and Euro fighter, tomayto tomarto).

Will be interesting to see if any others have been closed, Abyss for example.

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

The only thing I can think of is a new car was added at roughly the same time the empty car stalled. The ride op/engineer in charge saw the empty car on the transfer, forgot/misinterpreted one being added, and assumed it was the test car having returned. Assuming the track was clear, they then allow...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

I understand it's going to be purely precautionary rather than a suggestion of a fault in the system, but SAW at Thorpe is closed today.
