Re: Alton Towers Resort - General Discussion

[rant] Must say I'll miss all but the smiler's SRQ - (nearly) every time i see it or use it; it's not utilised properly, I've been waiting in that queue for ages to find out when we're finally beckoned through the ropes and up the stairs that nobody's been standing there to fill seats for a few batc...

Re: Alton Towers Resort - General Discussion

Personally, given the current climate re: security, I can see bag x-rays / searches & metal detectors being more and more common at all entertainment venues in the UK.   Honestly, I can too. It's not overly difficult to implement, not that steep of a learning curve to train an operator to recog...

Re: Alton Towers Resort - General Discussion

I work airport security, regards bag search: Expensive but increases flow - grab an old bag scanner from an airport (there's going to be a few kicking out soon due to DFT requirements) They had them at an airshow i attended rather impressed with the equipment for a temporary venue ... with AT not re...

Re: Towers Loving Care

Got to agree with Dan,  Basically, this is routine maintenance but giving it a tagline and a social media presence allows us all to appreciate the efforts made by the park over the closed season... it also allows the pessimists a chance to consider their claims that towers "don't care" abo...

Re: Wicker Man Construction Discussion

I have to jump in here, because when me and Deadjack5 heard it testing in real life the sound of the anti rollbacks was really loud, so I doubt they're magnetic :) Strange, I thought the design idea was they had magnetic anti-rollback for noise abatement! maybe it just didn't work out? is this rela...

Re: Wicker Man General Discussion

I feel like a chosen one, managed to see the video before it was taken down  :lol The pov stuff proves that it's been testing successfully so that's great news, perhaps we're going to see a few more videos in the coming weeks, did notice that there was lots of activity over a week ago with a big gap...

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

I would love to see a 360 comparison from  this exact spot   Apologies if this has been asked but i spotted something about drainage considerations. Am I right in thinking the flume lake was dug out for the flume? or had it always been there, because if it had then there's surely a lot of thought go...

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

500ft rule from any obstacle, as high as required to glide clear of populated areas. Also my chart doesn't go that far south but AT may itself by a danger/restricted zone. in such a case no aircraft, drone or larger is allowed to operate within the zone.

Let's not forget that previously - we had bathtubs and rubber ducks! ;) anything better than that is a step forward.

Re: Fireworks

Long time lurker, rare poster. The first time I managed to get to the fireworks after many years watching them on youtube... DEFINITELY worth going to. This year's brilliant! Also I found it quite easy once out of the big squeeze to get on rides after the show. Stayed all the way until the queues cl...

Re: Scariest moments at Alton Towers

Sub terra is pretty scary!
I was also scared of ripsaw, went on it sat next to a big guy so not only was i scared, but also uncomfortable. scariest part is when you get locked in at the top and you slowly rotate forward to look at the ground!

Re: SW8

I'm hoping it's some kind of coaster that interacts with water suitable for families. Woodies do nothing for me other than shake me silly until either my back caves in or my stomach exhumes my lunch, my experiences with them at Blackpool have cemented my belief in that. How large is the area cordone...

Re: Planning Application for Enhancements to Air

Loving the ideas and content Andy :) I wonder what ties it may have with the restaurant, perhaps that will be space themed and it will be spaceships that roll along rails delivering food?

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

Perhaps a random question but how long were the que times? Also had it been stopped for a long long time before the train that eventually stalled was sent through? reasoning for my questions: My guess is that external pressure to bust que times could have played a factor. From reading various bits i...

Re: Alton Towers 2015 Season Memories

Best Memory of the year was taking somebody who had never been to towers, withholding ride's secrets but teasing them a little :)

the secret on 13 and the smiler got the best reaction from her.

Oh and exploring the towers after a ride on hex was really cool! first time I've done that.

Re: Two Smiler trains collide -- BREAKING

The ride op cannot be at fault alone, the block systems of roller coasters mean that the second coaster should have just waited at the bottom of the first lift hill as the block in front of it would be registered as occupied. I'm no expert on the ride but i do see a Mid Course Brake Run just before ...

Re: SW8

Exciting news there on sw8 and the restaurant, investment after investment can only be a positive thing for the customers, manufacturers and the jobs that they make However personally after trying out the woodies at BPB I just don't like them. Overall they make me feel like I'm at the end of a jackh...

Re: Alton Towers Easter Eggs

This might be common knowledge to most of us but:
The pizza/pasta restaurant near rapids/mine train often plays the old theme to katanga canyon inside the restaurant, I'm sure there are other old tunes they play but i can't remember them off the top of my head.

Re: First timer - any tips?

pizza + pasta is also a great place to eat near the runaway mine train. you CAN return to your car if you want to get your picnic out. Get your hand stamped before you leave though! I'm also going down to AT on saturday so my fingers are crossed for the weather. ooh here's a good one: Pay for parkin...
