Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

Joe comes across as an amazingly brave, determined, focused and level headed young lad. The best of luck to him, although, on watching that I am sure he will do just fine.

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

I have to say that I'm not sure the GP are so ignorant to this accident, like they have been to others in the past. I think everyone will be watching the towers, and the smiler, very closely for a long time. I don't know one person who doesn't know of the smiler, and it's accident. Thanks to modern ...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

This newspaper is really beginning to sicken me... http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/alton-towers-crash-how-much-5851620" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; For as long as I live I will never buy another copy!!! I hope, and fully expect that, Alton Towers will compensate these kids out...

Re: Future Plans for the Towers themselves

I'd love to see some kind of restaurant make its home in the banquet hall of the towers. not sure how easy it would be to do that... id just much rather see something like that than another ride. id also love to see a fully furnished room from once upon a time. i think so much could be made from th...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

2) If the stalled train was a new train added to the ride could it be a problem with how well each train is maintained as the other unloaded cars went round no problems. A newly added train would have had cold wheels, and would have run slower, especially in the winds and reasonably cold temperatur...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

I suspect the cause of the accident will be fairly complex. Varney already hinted at that by saying that a number of unlikely things happened leading up to the accident: the technical problems (faulty track sensors?), the stalled car, the E-stop and potentially other things. This is consistent with...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

Engineers finally appeared by that area of track and got it going. They then announced it would be working again shortly and an extra car would be added, this 'would make it a slightly longer delay, but speed the queue up in the long run'. Shortly afterwards another empty car was sent round and had...

Don't know if this has been posted before... http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/alton-towers-accident-three-trains-5836451" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; It does seem like a news outlet has finally spoken to somebody who at least has a small idea of what they are talking about.... ...

Re: Staff and Recruitment Discussion 2015

The important thing is that you are training to a high level on how to do your job safely. Obviously the key thing is to make sure that staff know how to avoid things like this accident occurring in the first place. Of course something has gone wrong here, but to blame Alton Towers training methods,...

Re: Staff and Recruitment Discussion 2015

Missingaa , I must say that I genuinely love my job and I thought that my training was second to none. It was in-depth, well delivered and a good combination of theory and practical, and they always seem keen to get you passed off on as many rides as possible. There may have been changes but on the...

Re: Staff and Recruitment Discussion 2015

Quite an interesting read from an ex-employee of Alton Towers, sharing their view on the negative comments found on social media in regards to the young staff who worked on The Smiler the day of the incident and how they responded. https://getupfromalltimelow.wordpress.com/2015/06/02/the-real-trage...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

I’m an ex Alton Towers Resort / Merlin Entertainments employee, not to jump on the bandwagon, who's worked on The Smiler since pretty much day one. With that I’ve experienced my fair share with that ride and I want to lay out my opinion of what happened on Tuesday June 2nd; Firstly, the trains hold...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

Just out of curiousity, what benefit is it to remove all smiler pictures ect? If they remove all things related to the ride they are only giving the impression it's a dirty little secret when it's not. I feel terrible about what's happened and it really is tragic, I hope the injured make a speedy r...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

The odds of being killed on a ride are the same odds as being killed by shark attack!!!! And you're statistically more likely to die by a falling coconut. 100 times more likely to die from food poisoning.... Don't eat!!!! 150 times more likely to die by falling out of bed.... Don't sleep!!!! 438 tim...

Re: What Should Happen Now? (Smiler Incident 2015)

As I've just posted in the other thread, I'm sure that human error will be the biggest contributing factor in all of this. So I would hope that staff training will play a large part. They may also need to address the ongoing issue of the train stalling. If the causes are as I expect, as long as they...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

First post, though a regular reader, but I'll come to that in a minute. Firstly I want to say that I hope everyone involved recovers as quickly, and fully as is possible. Secondly, I am a little embarrassed that something like this has finally led me to sign up, but I want to to raise something that...
