Using special events to boost slow days at theme parks

Hi everyone, As part of my research, it would be extremely helpful if you could take a look at this survey regarding slow days at theme parks, and the events created to fill these days. Even if you have never attended an event held in a theme park, your insight is still valuable! TIA :D http://goo.g...

Re: Galactica - 2016 Air Re-theme

Like the new theme. Space is sometimes a little bit cheesy / 80's (Space Mountain!), but it could also be so immersive it's almost addictive. As for the powered launch hill, I unfortunately doubt it, despite how desperate I am for some kind of launch other than Rita at the park! BBC are reporting a ...

Hey where would I be able to post a link to a questionnaire about events in the park for my dissertation?

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

From the BBC: Staff misunderstood a shutdown message and wrongly restarted the ride, an investigation by the park confirmed. Could you see this as a panicked, knee-jerk reaction? Staff had never seen that type of shutdown message before (and despite hopefully being trained on it) had no idea how to ...

Re: Staff and Recruitment Discussion 2015

As for the 'loss of 190 jobs' headlines, I was doing a little bit of thinking, and wondering how it could have been interpreted by the media in such a negative way. Shoot me down if this is a totally wrong thought, but to me it seems fairly logical. Could they just advertise 190 fewer returning pla...

Re: Alton Towers - General Discussion

Was on park for the non-existent event 'Big Six Day', and despite it being busier than two weeks after the 2nd June, it was still eerily quiet. However, I concur with those mentioning the mist on Oblivion! I have never experienced it mist all the way through the tunnel, only on the entrance, but it'...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

Can test cars be sent around the track with water dummies in whilst the ride is operating as usual? If it was particularly windy, would there be any reason (apart from time) that staff would not fill a car with water dummies before sending it around the track?

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

God forbid those two fall from the track, especially if they are HSE! I feel as though the most reassuring thing AT could do at this time is to start 'testing' the ride again towards the very very end of the season (should they have permission). As someone previously mentioned, this season really is...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

It's a good idea, but who would want to sponsor The Smiler? Why did Cadbury want to sponsor Air? The Smiler is, for many, the best ride at Alton Towers (not all, I know!) and despite the recent incident, I'm sure a lot of companies would still be up for sponsoring the ride if it meant they could in...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

Won't there always be the risk of that happening if on more than 1 train, the only way I see around it is a maximum of 3 train operation, or/as well as only dispatching a train when one leaves the 2nd break run. I don't see many other ways for it to be impossible. Could this be why rattlesnake is s...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

I have no idea when or if The Smiler will re-open, however the decision can not be made either way until HSE have deemed the ride to be safe and a full report detailing and explaining the incident is released. I am sure that Alton Towers will continue to deal with the situation as professionally an...

Re: Alton Towers - General Discussion

I quite often pull up the Alton Towers app to have a look at ride times, and it seems to steadily be picking up, this weekend especially with some queues like today at around 4pm, Air has a 35 minute queue time. However, on almost every occasion I bring up this app, the rides in CBeebies Land always...

Re: Media on alton towers

Despite all of these 'stories' coming from the Mirror (and the locals copying and pasting the stories onto their sites), and the eye-witnesses they're coming from, the GP are not all idiots, and I don't for a second believe that many people who would even want to visit AT would be lead up the garden...

Re: Rides you want to see leave the park.

I'd be keen to see Ice Age replaced with a 4D motion ride. The concepts are fairly similar and it keeps the ride indoors, so limits need for extensive planning permission. Here's a video of the one in Centre for Life in Newcastle: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zczxck9pr0 This then allows the them...

Re: Alton Towers Resort - Quick Questions

There are still references to The Smiler around the park in the form of spray painted 'smile' stencils on various fences and platforms. Some could easily be painted over, but haven't been.

Re: Big Six Challenge

How busy is the 4th likely to be then? The competition only ran from 1st May until 2nd June, and AT's last twitter post on 29th May states ' So far 4757 people have completed the #BigSixChallenge '. Not all 4757 people are likely to use their free pass, because of work, school, uni etc, some will ha...
