Re: SW9

They should replace Rita with B&M launched wing coaster.   Something to rival nemesis with the feeling of near misses and low inversions.  It’d be cool to have a retheme of Dark Forest with some sort of water theme, and a decent flat thrill ride to give the area a good kick up the bum. I though...

Re: Creative Ideas For new AT Attractions

A dual track coaster. Imagine Nemesis but with an upright coaster also mounted to the top of the track, separate trains above and below, but on the same track. Supports would have to be rearranged to come from the side as trains would run above and below. The main question would be whether a track c...

Re: Dark ride ideas

I agree with you entirely, it probably would be a lot of cost for not a lot of benefit, I personally think that a dark coaster is something that the park should have, Smiler just happens to have the right track layout to do it with a fairly standaard warehouse type structure. With regards Valhalla I...

Re: Dark ride ideas

You could add windows around the ride allowing you to look in from various points in the queue at each of the effects of the marmalizer, and anything else they add.

Re: Dark ride ideas

I'm not sure if this was the orginal intention, but it was too costly, but I have an idea regarding The Smiler to fully enclose it. It already has a large solid concrete base on which to build a structure and a compact layout that enclosing it wouldn't be a major issue. It would show off the effects...

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

Assuming that testing doesn't uncover any dramatic surprises doesn't this basically guarantee it will be open for the beginning of the season?

That first turn just reminds me of Nemesis.. I'm sure that section was one Mr Wardley's inputs for sure! Can't wait.

It most certainly is. It is also known as 'The Wardly Drop'.

I thought it was a B&M thing and it reduces load on the lift chain? Forgive me if I am wrong.

It looks like anti rollback tracks have been installed on the lift hill?

I can't be the only one thinking that this turn looks absolutely intense!

To be honest, when the plans were first released I thought SW8 looked a little dull. But having seen the scale of it, and the banking, and the elevation, it looks awesome.

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

On both of Alton Towers recent coaster construction projects Th13teen and The Smiler we have seen noise reducing technologies utilised on the lift hills. Th13teen using kicker wheels instead of a traditional chain drive and The Smiler using a magnetic anti roll back system as opposed to the standar...

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

Is that definitely wooden track framwork being installed in the station? From the photo's it doesn't look very accurately cut wood, almost like its a temporary wooden support for something else.

Re: SW8 - Your help needed!

Does anyone know if the park has a timelapse camera installed anywhere to watch it go vertical? If not, is there any interest in seeing a timelapse of the build? I was going to write to the park and ask, but I guess it would carry more weight coming from these forums, if the interest is there of cou...

Re: SW8

Does anyone know a rough timescale for the build? I know when it's due to open, I mean what are we likely to see and when. Obviously they will clear the site first. Then start adding concrete footers? When does the electricity supply get added for instance? Does that go in quite early and then the r...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

"Prosecuting, Bernard Thorogood told the court that the passengers on the £18 million ride watched with “disbelief and horror” as they realised they were going to collide with an empty carriage. He said the kinetic energy involved in the crash on June 2 2015 was equivalent to “a family car of ...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

Always thought before the crash that there was a staff member or two on the smiler entrance, and you could see the batwing from the shop. I know members of the GP told staff the ride had stopped, but how not one single staff member didn't notice and inform the engineers is beyond me. The operators ...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

90 mp/h? Smiler has a top speed of ~85 km/h, or ~52mp/h. according to wikipedia the Smiler crash occured at ~20 mp/h. There's no way this was a 90mp/h crash, just watch the video. It wasn't said that the crash occurred at 90mph. It was said however that the forces involved in the crash were equival...
