Re: Kodak Photo Points

There was also one at the top of Towers Street so you would get a lovely wide shot of the Towers.

These were a lovely touch. Why on earth were they removed, even if the sponsorship ended? They could have made them sponsor neutral and kept them.

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

I believe the word 'lexicon' was just place holder text. :) This was probably just an early version of the main theme which has since been adapted. Early posters of Th13teen had the slogan 'Ride the demon of the Dark Forest'. Like 'lexicon', whatever this was intended to mean, it is not irrelevant ...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

With regards to testing, is it not conceivable that they test through the night in order to complete the necessary hours faster, leaving more time to iron out problems that may arise? Does any park ever do this?

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

With every slight variation that must occur when each piece of track is fitted and each footer is placed, surely this must happen fairly frequently when building a coaster? I wonder whether the effort involved to persuade the two pieces of track to align puts undue pressure on the pieces? Is there a...

Re: Virtual Queue

Another problem with the Fastrack system is that, while you are in the virtual queue, you can queue for others rides. This, for most people, is precisely the positive they want from a Fastrack system because they want to get on as many rides as possible. However, all this does is increase the queue ...

Re: The Smiler Train Discussion

I'm wondering what the through-put is going to be like on The Smiler. Has this been discussed before? If we have two lift-hills, am I right in thinking this allows the ride to send out cars more quickly than it would otherwise? As I understood it, cars have to reach a 'contact point' to send out a n...

Re: Virtual Queue

I think the idea suggested is pretty complicated and unfeasible even if it's intention is good. Notions of the queue being integral to the ride experience aside, waiting for lengthy periods for very short experiences when there is a heavy captial on your time spent in a theme park is quite an absurd...

Re: Remove A Rollercoaster

I voted Thirteen. This is because, if I had the ability to wave a wand and get rid of a coaster, it would give me the chance to do something the park in all good sense would never do in the sense that, as their most recent coaster, they are least likely to get rid of it. However, there are a couple ...

Re: Hex's popularity?

Why is Hex no advertised as much as other flats? I'd say because it's much harder to advertise than other flats. Other than impressive visuals of the Towers themselves, Hex does not have much of that instant, iconographic appeal that most other rides have. In fact, its very appeal lies in mystery an...

Maximum trains?

Something I notice and am curious about each visit I make to Alton Towers: Why might certain rides not use the maximum available trains, maximising capacity and minimising queue times? It's something I notice particularly on Air and Rita, most likely because these are the rides which suffer most for...

Re: No SW codename for Rita

It's an interesting and actually quite complex point that Rita didn't have a 'SW' tag. The park began attaching 'SW' to concepts for rides in the early 90s. This was a time when roller-coasters were coming into their own across the world as highly idiosyncratic, marketable players in leisure and tou...

Re: Times are tough... How to make Alton Towers as affordable as possible?

*Arrive as early as you can and leave as late as you can. If you've invested in a visit to the park, you want to spend as much time there as possible, but more importantly queues are much lower in the first and last hours. *Depending on where you have parked, getting out of the car park at the end o...

Re: Alton Towers Glasgow school coach crashes

This is quite sloppy journalism. The link this story has to the park is pretty tangential, why is it in the headline? Based on the headline alone, anyone would be reasonably permitted to think that the roads surrounding the park were directly linked to the accident. The park should just have been me...

Re: Nemesis Music 2007

I'd be more than happy for this to be X-Sector/SW7 area music. I've never really understood why X-Sector has never had an ambient score anyway. Anyone else think this sounds like the main theme from the 'Scream' movies?  :) Edit: http://www.filedropper.com/nemesis2 I can't seem to get this seco...

Re: Easter 2012

I was on at the park on Tuesday. I didn't see Peter Andre but that doesn't mean he wasn't there - I have no interest in him. Also, they were giving out free Rocky bars at the exit. That's the eggstent of the Easter event.

Re: Marketing burnt on to your retinas

I'm not sure if this has been the case since his installment, but the talking parrot in Mutiny Bay will, after chatting for a bit about whatever is on his mind, say that Splash Landings is a great place to spend a weekend. This I found ridiculous. If this advert has been added to the Parrot's repert...

Re: Nemesis: Sub-Terra Discussion (May Contain Spoilers)

Went on the ride for the first time today. I agree it could have been a lot better, but my party, and most other guests, came off laughing hysterically at the whole experience. With a very small amount of hindsight, however, you realise it wasn't fantastic, and that's not just due to you being remov...

Re: My Alton Towers Map

Very well done! i don't want to know how long it took you, but it's certainly a really good map. I think one of the problems the park have in making a map is that, in order to get the shape of the whole park anything like how it is in real life, they have to accommodate the massive valley which does...
