Re: Nemesis: Sub-Terra Discussion (May Contain Spoilers)

This rock is the first thing you see when the doors to the lift open, if it is so fake that it immediately makes you think about it, then it's quite damaging to making people think they've travelled underground. It think that you and I both have discerning tastes when it comes to artificial rock be...

Re: Nemesis: Sub-Terra Discussion (May Contain Spoilers)

All the main ride provided was a single fairly weak drop. Thirteen has a better drop and that has an entire rollercoaster attached to it! As for the lifts, they were entirely unconvincing. I was expecting something genuinely exciting to happen in the second one, particularly after seeing some of th...

Re: Nemesis: Sub-Terra Discussion (May Contain Spoilers)

I rode Sub-Terra this morning and whilst it was clear that a lot of effort had been made with the queue videos, branding, the actors and the general presentation of the ride (although I'm still not convinced that the shipping container-like building counts as good theming), nothing could cover up th...

Re: Mitch Hawker: Coaster Polls 2011

Depressingly, this hasn't changed since last year. Now that there are wooden coasters popping up all over Europe, I really have no excuse! Re: "Good Looking" Coasters

Thunder Dolphin at LaQua is a beautiful coaster in a dramatic setting. There's something just right about its proportions and it doesn't suffer from ugly supports which is what holds back a lot of Intamin coasters in the beauty stakes. I also love the way it interacts with the ferris wheel and the s...

Re: What Would You Improve About rcdb.com? [Please Read]

RCDB is hard to improve and is by far the most comprehensive record of coasters in existence but there's one thing that annoys me. It is often difficult to to find more obscure coasters that you cannot remember the name of or the name of the park they are in. The tree view method is okay but unless ...

Re: Expedition Ge-Force incident 28.04.10

Just heard about this and it's pretty shocking. It's unbelievably lucky that this accident occured where it did, at the top of a hill in the middle of the train. Had it been a different section of track such as the drop or an overbank or the clearances had not been wide enough or had it been the fro...

Re: 2012 Olympics - What could Alton do?

Oh, lighten up! They were picked because they were chosen as to be the best country to hold the event. Did you see the building used for swimming events or the birds nest stadium ? They were incredible and that is why the Olympics were there. It's not a matter of lightening up, this stuff's serious...

Re: Th13teen - Ride discussion [SPOILERS TOPIC]

After seeing a few photos of the finished product, I think it's fairly obvious that Alton and Merlin have made a huge effort with this coaster and it's deffinately a huge improvement over Ugland in its final few years. However I think that there are three things that prevent this coaster from being ...

Re: Texas Giant is first wood coaster to be converted to steel

^I must be missing something here - what do they mean by 'not bent'? It can't can't be straight as that would make hills and corners impossible It doesn't refer to the shape of the track its self, it means the manufacturing process. Tubular steel coasters are made using bending rollers to bend the ...

Re: 2010: Sonic Spinball

The Eiffel Tower's looking a bit worse for wear, maybe we should plonk a 6 foot statue of the Green Giant at the base and vinyl wrap the whole tower in a fetching sweetcorn related design, maybe the lifts can play "ho ho ho, Green Giant" as you approach the top?...the Green Giant's tall l...

iriderides101, good choice in going for the 3-door Megane. It's easily the most beautiful car in its sector and exudes more class than any of its rivals. I just wish they'd make the Renault Trophy version road legal: [url=http://www.luanpa.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/2009-renault-megane-trophy-ph...

Re: Mitch Hawker 2009 Coaster Poll

I expected Blue Fire to be better, but that should change when Theme Park review visit Europa Park. It got 12th, that's pretty respectable considering it's a new coaster in Europe. The problem is that despite the suposed mutual rider comparisons, people generally do not vote mutually and have a hab...

The Decade in Review

The decade is apparently over and as the entire world seems to be difining it with internet lists, I thought that I would jump on the bandwagon and see what people made of the last 10 years of AT history. A lot has happened in the last 10 years. We've had 3 new coasters, a whole lot of legal battles...

Re: If Alton was for sale...

Well if Electric Bill can Have the Haunted House, I'll have that rather large Gothic building in the middle of the park. Granted, it will need a bit of renovation but there's nothing that a few coats of paint can't fix. It comes with a nice garden too

Re: Mitch Hawker 2009 Coaster Poll

Woops...for the second year running I accidentally left PMBO far too high up my list. I placed it above Silverstar! This is the only problem with the poll helper. I'm glad it's there but it makes it easy to loose track of the order, particuarly if you are subject to chopping and changing the list as...

Re: New custom B&M flyer for Chinese park

Is that a giant version of Tatlin's Tower I see? I don't know if it's just me but I find it hard to get excited by these new huge parks that are seemingly popping up at a rate of one a week in places such as China and Dubai. I prefer it when parks start off from modest begginings and then grow in te...

They're at it in the car industry too; meet the Shandong Huoyun Noble: http://cache.jalopnik.com/assets/resources/2006/10/smart_clone.jpg This sparked a lot of anger at Mercedes so the company were forced to change the design.. Re: Alton Towers To Have Rail Connection In 4 Years

This is amazing news. I had always wondered how far the track carried for at the Kingsley and Froghall end. I just did a quick scan on Google Earth and it turns out that the track is complete and usable to just outside Oakamoor so it's almost halfway there already. It's not far to Leek from the Ched...
