Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

I thought it was a bit early for testing! The last few pics we saw before the park closed showed no signs of the track being laid. I would guess it will take them at least 4-6 weeks to lay all the track down and secure it ready for initial testing! I don’t think we will see a coaster on the track un...

Re: SW8

Has the flume station been destroyed or dismantled? Either they have dismantled it, to re furbish it then rebuild it, or the plans show a replica building? I really don't think they could have left it there and built around it anyway.

Re: SW8

You could have a splash effect without slowing down the ride. There are a number of ways to achieve this.

Re: SW8

Well that is kind of my point. You can have the best themeing in the world, but if it is a dull ride then it is going to be rather boring. Oblivion does not really have a lot of themeing, but is incredibly well designed so it really packs a punch both physically and psychologically. Don't get me wro...

Re: SW8

Why is everyone so obsessed about Theming these days? Oblivion anyone? A well designed ride does not rely upon theming to make it great, but a poorly designed one does.

Re: SW8

Hey Code. another great mockup, but you have changed/missed the changing lift hill gradient! In the plans it starts of around 22 degrees and changes to 12 I think. (Those figures are off the top of my head!)

Re: SW8

Well I think it is there for us all to see! Its a wooden rollercoaster (almost definately GCI) with what appears to be a launched LIM lift system (which will no doubt slow towards the top due to the tight turn but still offer a good entry speed), a fast layout with some nice airtime. Sounds bloody f...

The POV looks great. However, I am a firm believer that what we see isn't the full extent of the ride. AT has done it before, and they'll do it again.

What more are you expecting to happen? On what have they done this before?

Will this be the first launched woodie in Europe? I assume it's going to be launched as a 10m high lift hill doesn't suggest it will be enough otherwise.

It's actually 22m (73 feet) high.

Re: SW8

I'm still a bit confused why it has a lift hill with two different gradients!?

Re: SW8

Wow this looks good! From the Section plan, it shows the lift height at 201m, the lift starts around 180m, so that is at least 20m difference, which is around 70 feet. That combined with the residual speed from a LIM, should create a very nice run through this ground hugging coaster!

Re: SW8

We are not sure. Some have suggested it could be to do with compromise between height restrictions and track clearance. Although I can't see them designing a coaster to have two different lift angles just to fit it into the area. We are either misreading it, or the plans are not correct.

Re: SW8

Makes more sense to have it as a Mutiny Bay theme. There are currently only a couple of medium/small family rides in the area. Katanga already has two big rides.

Re: SW8

I think it's safe to assume SW8 will be in Mutiny Bay. The SW8 sign boards are Mutiny Bay themed, and in the Mutiny Bay Area.

So the first drop is only 7.5 meters? Sorry I'm still not following!? That can't be right?

Of course they could be hiding something, any ideas what they could be hiding?

Does the height difference take into account the first drop could go sub-terrain? Sorry I'm not sure how everyone is working out the height of the first drop based on the plans we have.

Re: SW8

Well it's definitely not a log flume or traditional water ride! That would end with a splash down. It is almost certainly a roller coaster. Just from the layout, my money is on a compact woodie. Darn I was convinced this was gonna be a B&M or Intamin!!
