The all-time "classic" fire alarm at Splash Landings was at about 10:30pm on 14th Feb 2004, yes Valentines day a couple of years ago. The one night when some of the hotel residents may have considered "retiring early for the night", the fire alarm got activated at about 10:30pm (cause unknown, but t...

AJ - good to hear that the training is trying to deliver the "right message" to new staff. However, the training is never really in the "real world". Example: You are working on the entrance of Oblivion / Air / Nemesis. Your job here is to greet guests & enforce ride restrictions at the entrance, so...

I thought they were Slovakians - either way they were from Eastern Europe. Quite a few of the staff in the Tavern & most of the Courtyard BBQ ones were Slovakian last year. The only two issues I had with this was that the BBQ staff would often be talking constantly to each other in their native tong...

Alton must have money to burn if they are moving to yet another new uniform so soon after everyone on park was [finally] in the "generic" blue & orange one. They should also consider visitor perception, i.e. people get used to a certain uniform & know what to look out for. Personally I think there a...

Who remembers late on in the 2002 season when the Haunted House was in it's last weeks before the re-vamp to Duel. someone snapped off one of the fingers of the undertaker by the hearse in the Haunted House. The missing finger was promptly re-instated by putting a glove on the undertakers hand - it ...

£90k on new Gondola's for the Skyride - seems way too cheap. I am unsure how many Gondola's are on Skyride - but 45 is probably a reasonable guess. (Even if all 45 are not on, there will be spares).

£2k per new Gondola, I think not.

Yes, Orange [& any other mobile network] will pay Alton Towers rent for having base station equipment on Alton's land / buildings. The Flag Tower must generate a nice revenue stream for Alton Towers as it has base station kit on it for all the mobile networks. Rent for a mobile base station site...

It's nothing to get excited about I'm afraid. The trench runs from the small substation near Splash Landings Hotel to a wooded area on the other side of the Splash Landings guest car park. Looking closer at this wooded area, Orange are in the process of installing a mobile phone mast disguised as a ...

No, I did not purchase those Nemesis plans. Are they the ones that someone had on eBay a while back? As to the ride running on the last day of the 2001 Season - the mechanics who normally checked over the ride were "unwilling" to sign it off due to the support / track movement. I believe their boss ...

OK, I have the plans - and a bit of "inside knowledge" on the ride. The Nemesis track is very stressed in places - so much so that I cannot help but think that B&M are regretting the lifetime guarantee they gave on the Nemesis track. The most stressed areas of the track are; C-10 - exit from the...

If you mean the bloodfall that runs to the left of the queue as you go down the steps, this runs onto support C-37L. Over the past years, Nemesis has had a few weeks downtime due to the concrete on this support having to be re-set. Obviously, I don't know if the bloodfall was to blame (I would assum...

I think you'll find that even Russell Barnes agrees with you on this one! He was interviewed in a recent issue of the staff news-sheet and he was asked what his least favourite attraction is. His reply was "Spinball bloody Whizzer" - and then went on to cite reasons of low capacity and the worst pos...

The real reason Thunder Looper was removed was because it was only ever installed with temporary planning permission, that had to be renewed each year. Come 1996, the local Council said "no more" - probably as a result of the noise complaints + the fact it could be seen from outside the park. If Thu...

I am surprised that Alton are spending £100k on a new admissions system, given that the current one is only 4 or 5 years old (I think). What is the "problem" with the current system that is forcing them to change it? Does anyone know? I seem to remember that the year Alton got the new admissions sys...
