Re: UK Park Of The Year 2013

Well if we're just suggesting UK parks, I would say Blackpool Pleasure Beach is the best in my opinion... JUST! The park is making big improvements despite struggling at off peak times. Wallace and Gromit was a great new addition and there have been plenty of general clean ups around the park and re...

The American Adventure Runaway Train

Stumbled across this on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Brveusokeo I was not aware it had operated anywhere other than Nottingham Goose Fair, for just the one year after AA closed its doors. Is there any way of tracking its movements, as this video has taken me by surprise, and I would reall...

Re: Ride of the year - 2013

If I'm nominating up to 5 (I think that's what I've understood of the rules) then I will nominate the following coasters, none of which I believe are on the list: - Wodan (Europa Park) - Gwazi (Busch Gardens) - Furius Baco (PortAventura) - Megafobia (Oakwood) - The Ultimate (lightwater Valley) Prett...

Re: UK Park Of The Year 2013

Hang on, I'm really confused about this topic. Fristly you're saying UK Park of the year and people are suggesting ones in America. Can I nominate any park in the world then? Or does it have to be UK? You've also put no discussion, so does that mean I shouldn't  be possting a reply? Should I ju...

Re: Should Alton Towers stay open until 9pm during the Summer?

I think Alton Towers should experiment with doing what Oakwood do in the summer and stay open till 10pm on selected nights only and make an event of it. Closing late with no event wouldn't work but at Oakwood they shut at 10pm every Wednesday and Saturday and have live music and fireworks on these n...

Re: Drayton Manor Least Busy Day

If you want a weekend, then I would say early October will be a bit quieter than September. Like any UK theme park Sundays tend to be less busy than Saturdays. However, it al depends on the weather. You say you don't mind being cold, but go onn a rainy day and the park will be dead.

Re: Can Oakwood afford another coaster?

Oakwood has a 5 year development plan, which they're keeping very close to their chest at the moment. The first stag was the new Neverland area which was a much better use of  their money that putting a big coaster in, in my opinion, as the previous Playtown kids area was desperately in need of...

Re: Flamingo Land VS Drayton Manor?

Drayton Manor. Overall Flamingo Land is probably a better quality park than Drayton Manor, which looks alot more tired. Flamingo Land however is let down by its horrifically bad staff who have literally ruined my day on more than one visit. It's amazing how that can make such a big difference to you...

Re: Chessington 1990

Fair play to Dave Benson Phillips, he must have shot to fame really quickly as a result of his time at Chessington, he was a big name by the mid 90s.

Re: Pleasure Island on BBC's One Show

I only agree with Deborah Meadon up to a point. A worldd's first could be very much make or break for Pleasure Island. The problem with installing world firsts is that you have nothing to compare them to, in order to assess how popular they will be and how the public will react to them. Imagine if a...

Look at the page with all the characters on. Page 6 I think. The clown on stilts called Benson, I'm 99% sure that's Dave Benson Phillips from TV's Get Your Own Back. Am I right on this?!

Re: Strange Opening/Closing Times

Yes many people do stay in hotels when visiting UK parks, however compared to day visitors they make up a very very small minority of the overall attendance. Much as I hate to say it, late openings at UK theme parks without a special event doesn't work and we have evidence to prove that. I wish it w...

Re: Strange Opening/Closing Times

Yes you personaly would be happy to stay in the parks till 9pm, I would too. But sadly this does not represent the feelings of the majority of the British public. Parks across the UK aren't bringing their closing times earlier just for fun, there's genuine reason  for doing it and, even though ...

Re: Opening times 2013

I recently mentioned in another post, in the Merlin section, that th British public just don't seem to want to stay in parks late like peopl abroad do. The only way to keep them out late ad make it worth the parks staying open late is by putting on events such as Scarefest or fireworks which will on...

Re: Strange Opening/Closing Times

The problem with UK parks is that, unless they give people are real reason to stay at the park till late ( would pretty much limit this to fireworks and halowen events), they wont stay! Thorpe Park tried closing at 10pm in August back in 2006 an it was a flop, all rides were walk on after for the la...

Re: Best ride at port aventura

Well I know it's a ride which is hated by many member of this forum but I'd say Furius Baco, although Shambhala does come very close. Baco wins for me because the theming is totally unique "thinking-outside-the-box" theming. They could have gone with your standard pirate, cowboy or space t...

Probably Thorpe Park around 2007 when reliability was shockingly bad and the park was so busy. Things have got better since then thankfully.

Re: The American Adventure: Past, Present and Future

On another note, does anyone know what this would have been at the park. I don't recall any water slide type attraction. 19/Feb/1997  American Adventure World Pit Lane Shipley Heanor Derbyshire  3 slide water slide for amusement of paying guests  . I do seem to remember this. 1997 wa...
