Re: Official Oakwood Thread!

I believe that's the only one. It would be nice to see a fully functioning Oakwood fan site as the park do now seem to be trying to get back in to the big league where they belong  :D

Big Blue Hotel- Some Questions

Hello, I was considerring staying at the Big Blue as a bit of an upgrade from the Travelodges and B&Bs I normally stay in at Blackpool, but am really struggling to find the information I need on their website (although I may be looking in the wrong places) I was wondering if anyone could help me...

Re: Official Oakwood Thread!

Indeed. I think, up unitl recently, the park's main focus has been on clearing the huge and highly publised debt that they were in when Aspro took over. Aspro inherited all that debt and understandably, investment had to be reduced until that debt was paid off. Now that it's been paid off, if Neverl...

Re: Official Oakwood Thread!

The map shows an imbalance of family attractions to Thrill Coaster now Thing is though, this is where the park have been going wrong over the years leading up to this. There used to be alot of emphasis placed on the "Ride the big 4" marketing campaign with huge focus on their four big thr...

Re: Which of the 1994 coasters will be removed first?

I, like most people, voted Shockwave partly because most of the public find it boring and outdated compared with some of the other coasters that have built in the UK since, also because this seems to be the direction that Drayton Manor are moving away from. They have definitely found their niche in ...

Re: Camelot Theme Park Deconstruction Discussion

You can! I also paid a visit to the hotel about a week ago to have a nosey. It's all pretty much exactly the same as the last day of their season as far as I can see. Knightmare and Whirlwind are both still standing in their entirety, no deconstruction at all with them, the Dragon coaster, water tub...

Top 5 (or 10) Blackpool Pleasure Beach rides

I started off by doing a top 5 Pleasure Beach rides, but it seems they just have too many good rides for me to be limited to just 5. So here goes. Mine are as follows... 1. PMBO 2. Valhalla 3. Grand National 4. Big Dipper 5. Wild Mouse And if anyone cares about my 6-10, here they are... 6. Derby Rac...

Re: Blackpool Pleasure Beach General Discussion

Oh dear, let's hope this doesn't catch on. Really don't want to see BPB copying Merlin with anything. The uniqueness of what they have, and what they do, is what sets them aside from Merlin.

Re: Whirlwind off to Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach

I went to Great Yarmouth earlier this year for the first time and I do think that this regeneration is something that's needed, the Pleasure Beach seemed popular yet dated. One thing I do hope is that Whirlwind isn't simply plonked there. It needs a good paint job and general refurb for it to look n...

Re: My Interview with John Wardley

I agree with all of that. However I think that if the Big One hadn't been put in, thus making Infusion the park's biggest coaster, I don't think that the Pleasure Beach would be anywhere near as popular as it is now. the visual impact of The Big One alone is huge and has transformed Blackpool's skyl...

Re: My Interview with John Wardley

Interesting read. Although I don't agree with what he said about the Big One and its legacy. It is an icon of both the Pleasure Beach and of Blackpool itself. For an 18 year old coaster to still have such a huge effect is a massive achievement. Since 1994, only one other coaster has opened at Pleasu...

Re: Barcelona World, the name says it all

I'm really surprised Catalonia's government are supporting such a massive development so close to PortAventura.... like literally less than an hour's drive or train journey from PortAventura. Also knowing Barcelona's reputation, if this ever does happen, it'll be pick pocket central, I won't be leav...

Re: Blackpool Pleasure Beach All Time Greats - Which Ride Would Win?

Blackpool is a more difficult one to judge than Alton Towers. All of Towers' coasters in that poll are modern B&M or Intamins so were easily comparable. However, comparing modern coasters like Infusion against old classics like Big Dipper isn't comparing like for like. I'd say overall, The Big O...

Re: 2012: How was it for you?

Swarm has been one of the biggest disappointments for me this year. It just didn't live up to the hype. Sub Terra however, was a pleasant surprise, although I didn't go on it until after it had been updated. Merlin parks have all felt like they're under-performing this year, although in terms of att...

Re: Blackpool Pleasure Beach General Discussion

I saw that they've confirmed this. Odd that there were so many rumours if nothing was planned, unless something was planned and they changed their minds. Wonder what'll happen to Grand Prix.

Has anyone been charged to park at Drayton Manor this year? When I went earlier in the year the charge wasn't in place.

Re: Camelot not reopening for 2013 season

The park is very close to Blackpool which I guess is its biggest problem. I went back in the 90s just once, I've often considered going back, particularly with the threat of closure hanging over the park, but with the lack of rides and poor reviews it just doens't seem worth it with Blackpool so clo...

Re: Does the UK ignore dark rides too much?

To be honest I think Merlin are pretty short sighted with their attitude towards dark rides. If Towers or Thorpe were to install a ride as well themed as Vallhala, it could really pay off. Vallhala is now in its 13th season and, even though it costs alot to run, the public love it and I include teen...

Re: Blackpool Pleasure Beach General Discussion

I'd hate to see that, the fun of Wild Mouse is in the fact that it's old and traditional and that there's nothing else like it around. To see it go would be a massive shame, and Mandy's Tweet which has been posted on here doesn't answer any questions. Looks like I may have to pay another visit to Bl...

Re: Best THEMED theme park in britain?

I much preferred Beanoland to Wild Asia. Although it looked tired towards the end it was a fun theme and had the potential to be even better (I really like Nick's idea of a dark ride going through a Beano comic). Up until recently, Chessington's themes have all been light hearted, chearful and fun, ...
