Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Oblivion looks fantastic in with its new (half finished) coat of paint! You can see on the supports they have done so far they have re-done the orange markings wich is pleasing to see. The area as a whole still needs a lot of work though on its finishing touches, painting Oblivion and fixing up the ...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

The building is the only thing which CAN NOT change from the plans released is it not? Thus the building will look like the plans. The shape of the building HAS changed from he plans, whether they are allowed to do so or not. :) My bad then, but please, forgive my ignorance. How has the building ch...

Re: Alton Towers Hotel to get Full Refurbishment

This is the first thing that has been discussed about the Hotels that has actually made me want to stay over. Typical that this would happen the year I have no one to drag along with me! I hope that the changes made reflect the money spent and we're not left thinking they've done quick fix-ups. Wel...

Re: Alton Towers Hotel to get Full Refurbishment

I would love to see a rebrand of the Alton Towers Hotel to coincide with this refurbishment, starting with a new logo. Would be nice if they got rid of the suitcase and incorporated the flying ship back into the design. Love the look of these new Moon Voyagers rooms too! Nice to see something which ...

Re: Chessington 2013 Closed Season Updates

That is an example of how NOT to conduct a retheme. Would you rather they went back to their old method of 'retheming'? Which involves removing everything and not putting things back, or replacing it with ducks. The original café was outdoors, meaning it was cold, money was wasted on ineffective he...

Re: Chessington 2013 Closed Season Updates

It's all absolutely great apart from the Creaky Cafe whick looks bloody awful. That is an example of how NOT to conduct a retheme.

Re: Waterpark refurbishment

Are they determined to ruin any adult appeal of Splash Landings and the waterpark...

They've already turned the hotel into Cloud Cuckoo Land.

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

I actually hope there is no Secret Weapon element.

If there was it would just go to prove that the whole SW series have become a farce, little more than a gimmick addded to a standard coaster for the sake of it just for marketing purposes.

Re: Thorpe Park 2013: Possible Ride Discussion

Trapped in a computer virus, with no escape. Hence the name. I think X:/ gets a lot of stick which it doesn't really deserve. People forget it was actually originally designed for the pre-teen age group in a time when Thorpe Park was still a family destination and needed a ride to satisfy older chil...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

Well look at the far right of the picture at the station building, you can see that part of the station sticks out. The plan showed it would be flat.

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

But i thought in terms of planning, the building has to stay the same and the only thing they can change is theming on it? Your absolutely right in what you said Jay... I was referring to what Chris said. As yet, we know of no changed that have been granted to the station buildings, herefor we must...

You can clearly see from those two pictures that the actual station building is different to the plans.

Most important rides

I was bored so I got thinking - what do you think were the four most important rides that were built in each decade since Alton Towers became a theme park? Here's mine:- 1980's Corkscrew Black Hole Grand Canyon Rapids Log Flume 1990's Nemesis Oblivion Haunted House Runaway Mine Train 2000's Air Rita...

Re: X Sector Refurbishment

^Well said.

I'm sick of hearing about this Ministry of Joy already. X-Sector came first and so therefore I think The Smiler should try and fit with its concept instead of the other way round.

Re: X Sector Refurbishment

^Just one last thing - no matter how weak or vague a theme is, a ride will always have one. Air has many traits of Nemesis in it, while still being a ride of its own. While it was the only space available, that means they were 'forced' to theme it to the rest of the area, or it would just look stup...

Re: X Sector Refurbishment

Remember the plans were made ages ago and things may have changed since, not every ride is exactly the same as the plans that were proposed for them :D remembering the fountains for air  :? This is true, but do not forget that the buildings can not changed from the plans at all. The track and ...

Re: X Sector Refurbishment

Is it still going to have an old run down theme?

I assumed from the marketing it was now going to have a modern finish. The spider in the promo image looks quite different to the plans.
