Re: 2012: Neglect, decay - demise?

They do prioritise tasks around the resort, which is fair enough it's to do expected. For example, relaying a section of broken and crooked paving is much more important than fixing a vending machine which doesn't work properly. However, something I found very interesting was at [email protected] when someone a...

Re: 2012: Neglect, decay - demise?

That whole section of track is in plain view to guests if the lower extensions are open. I can sort of see where you're coming from in that it's rare it is seen, but even so that does not justify it.

Re: 2012: Neglect, decay - demise?

Just to expand on Dave's point about Dark Forest aging poorly I'd like to show you all this photo. I took this at February Half Term last season when TowersTimes had our behind the scenes tour of Air http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/190399_1775862649067_1614368002_1659028_4859115_n.jpg...

Re: 2012: Neglect, decay - demise?

Well what can be said that hasn't already? I agree with 90% of the issues Russell has raised here. Every park has it's dry spells. However, Alton seems to have been in one since about 2004 now, with the exception of one or two years. As the saying goes, money makes the world go round, and unfortunat...

Re: Off Peak Closure of SkyRide and Other Cuts

Of course the real tragedy to all this will be the loss of the Buyride track. Now where am I going to find out about Ice Age 4D under Forbidden Valley, home to the Master Blaster water coaster and Sir Algeeon's discoveries, or about how I can fork out more money on top what I've spent so I can goto ...

Re: Drayton Manor 2012 Season

Depends what you're into really. If you've never visited either before then I'd certainly say Alton. However, at the moment Drayton is looking the best it has for years. Aside from the lack of Excalibur the park has really upped it's game over the past two seasons. If you are willing to miss a visit...

Re: Off Peak Closure of SkyRide and Other Cuts

Merlin seems to be well aware of Blackstone's intentions. I'm no expert in these matters but what I believe is happening is Merlin are ordering their attractions to cut back their expenses in order to generate more profit. This extra profit in most cases seems to go to writing off debts for individu...

Re: Thorpe Park 2012: The Swarm

It is very strange, I've heard the same from quite a few people, that the carpark seems to be heaving but once in the park it feels dead. When I went the carpark looked near enough full on arrival. However, once in the park the queues weren't too bad, and the general areas of the park weren't too bu...

Re: You top 3 coasters and why?

Having not yet visited a none UK park my list is fairly small. However: 3rd - Colossus - I don't care what anyone says, it's a damn fun ride! It's in a real nice setting which has been left to rot in some respects, and sure a lick of paint wouldn't go amiss, but then again Oblivion is the same! Does...

http://cache.rcdb.com/jaf84g4e6c2q4000gjquo0.jpg Winning! What a lot of people don't realise is that this fellow actually boarded the ride with both arms, and lost the other one during the ride on a low hanging support... :P Health and safety, and Concrete Gheto entrance aside though it doesn't loo...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

Personally I can see the themeing costing a fair bit more than £3M. Given Studio's prices I'd bet there's at least £1-2M in the spider alone. then there's theming the exterior of the building, and any internal theming. Oblivion may have only cost around £7M for the hardware but there's still a fair ...

Re: New Cable-Car for London: "Emirates Air Line"

I thought it looked nice until the gondolas went on. Now I think it looks dreadful. It looks like there are too many and the whole thing is overloaded. It'd look nicer with half as many larger gondolas if you ask me.

Re: Roper update

While Alton are in no way immune from the law, it is also important to remember that just because the Ropers have a good solicitor does not really make them more likely to win. Yes it no doubt gives them a stronger case, but also remember that Merlin Entertainments has it's own legal team, who will ...

Re: Roper update

I'm sorry, but what did they really expect. They bought a house, next to a theme park. Well no they didn't. The Ropers main argument is that they lived in Farley before Alton was anything near the scale of it's operations today. As CF's timeline shows they took up residence prior to Corkscrew being...

Re: BG Williamsburg 2012: "Verbolten" multi-launch Zierer

Well I'm glad to see a video of the drop at last. It certainly looks better than Polar X Plorer anyway! I guess 1 metre can make a big difference :) Aesthetically though I still prefer the Intamin take. The lack of a visible frame and catwalks just offers the chance for a more emersive theming exper...

I think it was the Motion Master show for a period, but I'm not 100% certain on that. I dare say someone will put me right on it :P

Re: BG Williamsburg 2012: "Verbolten" multi-launch Zierer

Let's put it this way. Polar X Plorer doesn't even look to freefall! It crawls onto the drop track painfully slowly, spends a good few seconds lining itself up, then waits. The 'drop' looks to be the equivalent if Th13teens bounce, before the thing slows right down suddenly and lowers the other half...

Re: monorail

I think it's more likely a case that they simply haven't stood the test of time very well. I mean lets face it, the car park station is far from warm, dry, and sheltered. No doubt the harsh elements of the past winters have taken their toll.

Re: monorail

The stations need a complete AV overhaul. Half the CRTs are destored or broken, half the speakers are missing, and what few flat screens there are are all horribly burnt and destored :|
