Re: Tidal Wave Vs Splash Mountain Vs Tutuki Splash

A bit random isn't this? Why not what is your favourite Shoot-the-Chute ride (although technically SM is a Log Flume)? And as only one of them are owned by Merlin this might be in the wrong topic. I've only been on Tidal Wave but I've seen Tutuki Splash (although it wasn't operating) and can fairly ...

Re: Advice for a Pregnant Person in the Park

I think you'll be surprised how many ride you should be ok to ride. The basic ones would be Squirrel Nutty, Riverbank Eye-Spy and the Tractor Ride. But I also suspect you could manage Battle Galleons, Duel and Hex although make sure to check the signs at the entrance first. As for the non-rides ther...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

That revolving section with lap bars would be incredible (although not if they flip you too many times as it'll get boring). Well if its going to be marketed as having 14 Inversions (Which it is :P) Then this means it would have to revolve 6 times. Is this too much? Yes, but I didn't want to say it...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

That revolving section with lap bars would be incredible (although not if they flip you too many times as it'll get boring). Anyone who's been on Blue Fire at Europa Park will know what I mean. The last inversion is mental! Feels like you've been thrown right out the vehicle. You wouldn't get the sa...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

The use of shipping containers in many Merlin attractions are a running joke for the financial department at Merlin because they are so cheap and make enthusiasts so angry yet the general public really don't notice or even care Ah cute, they've been building them just for us! I feel flattered... .....

Re: Is Rita worth it?

Erm.. when did stealth become 20mph faster?  :? Stealth reaches 80mph and Rita makes just over 60mph, at least that's what the marketing says. Have you heard differently? As for my opinion if the queue is long then Rita’s not worth it. It's a dreadful queue and as the park offers many better r...

Re: Scarefest 2012: General Discussion

I literally just found out today that half-term isn't when I was told it was  I asked my mum (my little sister is school age) and she got it wrong, which means going on my birthday (Halloween) is going to be much much worse than I anticipated.. So.. Can I trust you guys to be honest? Jus...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

Well that's good to hear. I’ve been getting tired of all these suggestions of most inversions as it’s such a lame record that’s fairly irrelevant and normally comes at the expense of a great ride. I hope no one thinks I'm a kill joy for telling you to keep it secret but the trouble with releasing su...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

spin_doctor don't do it! If someone could get into trouble for telling you and you telling us (especially if it's their Job that's in danger) then don't post the information. I'm sure people would want to know, me included, but it's not worth it. Also I've seen you post before and so can vouch that ...

Re: Do you think Oblivion is a rip off?

I think the term rip-off is the wrong word but I know what they mean. From the perspective of someone who has ridden many different coasters before Oblivion will seem less impressive. I know someone from America who does a lot of reviews and I normally agree with him but he was very critical of Bliv...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

by world beating i think it means beating the world record of most inversions. that seems most plausible. sorry if it's already been mentioned! As far as I can see, the change to the wording probably means this is most likely - switching from "Worlds first rollercoaster with 11 (or 12, or what...

Re: Favourite ride logos.

Oblivion is certainly the most iconic. It's a simple, easy to remember design which also says something about the ride. But I wouldn't say it's my personal favourite as I think it feels quite dated. There's something about the orange colour scheme and the ride itself that belongs in the 90s. But it ...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

I remember where that rumour came from. I'm afraid it was just marketing getting carried away... again. Here's the quote taken from the Direct or Fear press release: Today, Alton Towers Resort announces a new recruit - Jack Osbourne. The adrenaline junkie has been employed to ensure that the theme p...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

Will there be cameras on board the carts like on saw and swarm? Because AT does not have anything like that and it would be a missed opportunity if there was none It all depends on how successfully they think they can be. Oblivion used to have cameras on it but they nearly never worked, I think I o...

Re: Scarefest 2012

What hasn't been mentioned here yet is that there are quite a few of these faces (spray painted the same as above) and they lead from the park entrance to SW7s construction site (one of them is actually on the banners). While this is believed to be a reference to the Ministry of Joy this is also def...

Re: Thorpe Park 2015 Coaster

No B&M flyer is in the pipeline for Thorpe Park. The Swarm took care of that type of 'experience'. How? Swarm is not a flyer and it's more of a Floorless. The riding experience found on The Swarm feels very similar to that of a flyer. A lot of people have commented on this and I'd agree as well...

Re: Scribbles?

This project is coming along really well. It does look and feel like a LEGO park. Even the bigger rides do feel like they'd belong in a LEGO park, love the Pirate duelling woody. Is the blue building supposed to be a Hotel? It certainly looks like it could be one. I'm confused by the train though, i...

Re: 2014-2019: Possible Developments?

are they going to do something with the gardens? There not allowed to some historical preservation which I think makes Alton towers different from other theme parks I'm not sure what they can and can’t do with the gardens although as they once put in a planning application for a roller coaster to r...

what other rides do they do? Do you mean Gerstlauer? Take a look: Their Website RCDB List of Coasters But to simplify it they are best known for: Euro-Fighters, Launched Euro-Fighter type rides and Bobsled coasters (Like a Wild Mouse but better) But I think what's more interesting is that they've b...

Did someone mention an attraction based on tripping out? You've just given me an excuse to talk about one of the best ever dark rides that sadly only lasted a year: Nights in White Satin: The Trip There was a section in the queue that involved walking through a revolving tunnel while 3D glasses dist...
