Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

All I'm saying is that once there's an emergency, the ride by law has to stop immediately, until deemed safe... Once deemed safe there's no need to evacuate anymore... There is no law here. You don't know what you are talking about. It's liability, if the safety mechs are not there, AT can be held ...

And I can't seem to see any ratchet mechanism...

I also see no chain mechanism either...launched LIM?

It has the 'trough' for the chain mechanism to go into, it just isn't clear from this angle. Look at other pictures of it, you cans see the 'cut-out' into the track.

Can I use more than one 2 for 1 voucher at the same time?

You'll need to pay separately.

Terms usually state 'not to be used in conjunction with any other offer'. Also, please be aware most 2for1's are 'when a full paying adult buys a ticket'. Therefore may be no good for kids, unless they buy adult tickets.

Hope it helps, and enjoy your visit!

Doesn't the train look a bit different? The front bar seems now to be in a curve, a 'smile' like curve? And other small changes!! And I can no longer see the horrid smiler logo. Or is it just me??

It may not be the front car, I assume the 2nd, 3rd, 4th row wont have the logo on the front.

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Hate to deliver bad news to anyone , however , the ride is expected ( by many people ) to open 2th May 2013 which is a Saturday ( which means more people in the park ) It wouldn't make sense for them to open it on a Thursday or any day in the week when everyone will be at work / school etc ! So the...

Anyone remember the Warner Bros shop in Lakeside

I thought this on my second visit this year but then thought I must have gone mad. Thanks for clearing that up.

The Swarm Confirmed Modifications

^yep, as the train passes through some elements (plane wing and station roll to name a few) The Swarm noise plays.

I notice this season the fire is working a lot more (every train on Monday), but the water jets aren't working well.

*2002, but yes your point is valid. There's no point in aiming to beat older rides all the time.

Future technology and ideas will dictate the 2015 coaster.

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Eurofighters I've noticed tend to start and stop the chain lift as a way of getting the ride moving instead of having them running all the time, or running just before the train rolls onto them (Saw definitely does this). The sprocket may be that early to have the car stopped but latched on to the ...

London Dungeons move to County Hall

I went Sunday 3rd, was incredible! Didn't think they could improve on the old attraction but they have!

Amazing and only had a few glitches. Very impressed.

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

if you can only see it from the top of oblivion for 3 seconds then whats the problem? Enthusiasts being enthusiasts. Alton Towers sorta have to do it... otherwise they would get no money from fanta to build the smiler... Wouldn't put too much money on anything substantial from Fanta going into this...

Thorpe Park: X:\\No Way Out Changes?

Ok, ok, I've been quiet for a while and now I'm going to say it. A few months ago (end of 2012) I was informed by two sources of two changes to Thorpe Park for 2013. One was The Swarm would have the last two rows facing backwards, the other was that X:\ would become forward-facing and new trains/re...

TBWA were my client at work up until the end of Jan.

I did ask but they knew nothing (the people who I was working with anyway- a different division obviously). But I am friends with a few on Facebook. I shall ask around ;)

Alton Towers Hotel Queries Easter 2013

Hi Chaps... I'm a newbie so apologies in advance for my ignorance on how things work at AT's.  We're taking the three kids (all like the bigger rides) at Easter staying at the ATH for 2 nights on the 25th and 26th March. My questions to help plan our trip are: 1. We check-in to ATH on t...
