Re: Can Oakwood afford another coaster?

Agreed. The 2014 addition is family-based, yet thrilling enough for the teenage market also.

I think we're going to see this park going from strength-to-strength in the next few years and I hope poor(ish) visitor numbers this season haven't ruined their future plans.

Re: Big Blue Hotel- Some Questions

Unless it expressly states so in any deal you book - park entry is NOT INCLUDED in your hotel stay. But you can buy your BPPB tickets at the Hotel reception for the same price as the official website price is for that day.  :D Stayed there for the first time earlier this year, was an amazing h...

Re: SW8?

Why don't they remove Storybook Land and Old MacDonald's Farm and just build another thrill area on there, with SW8 there? Because they'd alienate the family market (see Thorpe). Just having thrill rides doesn't work (see Thorpe) and sometimes having a mix of coasters, family attractions and high-c...

Re: Ride Downtime 2013

On the last visit about week ago air got stuck on the chain lift three times, not for very long, but reading about people getting stuck on air for 15mins in the newspaper  did not help.  Is this a  common thing with b and m flying coasters or is it because air is getting old but talk...

Re: Ride photo pickup charge.

The only problem with that is 4 of you have to buy a photo to get to see all 8 of you. Oblivion has two ORP points. One takes a photo of two people (going into the hole) and one takes a photo of the entire shuttle (coming out of the overbank), so all sixteen people on the ride feature on every ride...

Re: Ride photo pickup charge.

At Thorpe a few months ago a friend made a note of the codes of the photos he wanted then bought them all from the desk in the dome at the end of the day. They could access all photos from all rides and print what you wanted. Unfortunately I think Alton Towers isn't as sophisticated Last season I w...

would be awesome - we hardly hear anything from her.

She was in The Smiler station on opening day (the one they allowed people onto it), didn't see anybody approaching her. Missed opportunity?

Re: Ride photo pickup charge.

Last year I got a photopass (5 photos) with AP discount. This year I got a photopass (4 photos) without AP discount. This charging to collect thing used to happen at Thorpe Park. That seemed to change, I believed they used to do it at AT for a while? They seem to drop and pickup this idea so often I...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

Venturing off topic here (sorry) but Oblivion is still closed as it is not fixed yet. Rumors are something needed replacing in the gearbox and a new part has now arrived, so I assume testing will begin again shortly (I hope). Back on The Smiler, going again on Sunday so hope to get my 2nd/3rd/4th ri...

Ride Downtime 2013

So, opened in 1998 Oblivion has had very little downtime compared to it's surrounding coasters. In fact, many B&M's have very little downtime after initial opening. So, what is up with our good old friend? 2013 has seen it closed for a few full days, mainly due to The Ministry of Joy's latest in...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

So, judging from Twitter, The Smiler is closed and not due to open at all today? Whilst people overreacting probably isn't the most reliable source, the closure is still mentioned on Alton Towers' official website. Anyone care to speculate why, two weeks after opening, it is closed for a 2nd day? No...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

^they wont refund FastTracks? WOW. I can understand if YOU missed your time slot, or if the ride was down when your timeslot was open but re-opened later. But to not give you a refund when they failed to open the ride (albeit if it couldn't be helped). That is terrible, do not leave the park, take i...

Oh Jesus, there's no confirmation it has stalled though is there? So, maybe there is hope. I understand it was down this morning and due to open this afternoon, but with Oblivion down as well, could this be another crane-issue?

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

Please remember that we knew nothing about either inverted drop or the sea-serpant before the supports went up - it was only then that we twigged it would be a record holder. Indeed, the approved planning applications had an 'edited layout'; of which did not show all the inversions, just the track ...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

Its stalled again!!! Something is seriously wrong with this now. I know coasters stall from time to time but shouldn't be this often! This is terrible news, and now I assume X Sector will be closed all day. If its the temperature then they need to advertise the ride as opening at midday or whatever...
