Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

Why are the lifts set up different on The Smiler? they are a bit like Rita's launch system. I'm not quite sure what you're getting at, but I'm thinking that you are referring to the fins on the lift hills... Those are there as a new anti-rollback system, which allows the train to slowly descend bac...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

Today when the single rider queue was let through to the steps, a member of staff blocked the entrance to the 'All Other Riders' stairs up to the station therefore single riders were forced to use the correct queue. The opposite happened when the normal, fastrack and ambulant disabled queues were le...

Re: The Smiler

So I have finally been corrected and in the process, marmalised. Just to reiterate what others have said, The Smiler is so dominant within X-Sector now and the whole area feels transformed. The Marmaliser standing tall and proud with all of its marmalising techniques in full swing is certainly impre...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

Also in regards to busyness, pretty much all exams have finished now and the majority of students don't return to school until September now, therefore, there will be a large number of school leavers at the park.

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

Just as a notice, it's nice to see the drainage system in the pit works well.  ;)

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

I've always had concerns over the design of the batwing if I'm honest. The two halves are pretty much identical in size. You would expect the second half loop to be smaller in height due to friction forces acting on the trains, lowering their momentum. However both loops are pretty much equal. There...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

Wouldn't have happened with a B&M.... Just saying... ;) Well, if you don't count Leviathan and Shambhala  ;) And I have to ask WHY.... why would they run this thing with empty trains :| surely they would've learnt by now :/ I'm pretty sure it is standard procedure to test with empty trains...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

Just a quick question. Do you think AT will maintain and even switch on all the effects, both indoor and outdoor, during quieter off-peak days? I'd hate to visit and not get the full experience just because it wasn't necessarily busy and the hype of opening had died down. What do you think?

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

That 31st Calender logo is the generic calender logo used throughout Facebook. No matter what date the event is the same logo is used with the number 31.

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Also thanks J_Baggie for the photos. It really looks as though they are gearing up for an opening tomorrow.

Also, as you're onsite, do you know if they've installed the remaining fencing next to the pit at the entrance to the double barrel roll after the cobra roll, that's been missing for ages?

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

One thing I have noticed is that they have removed the pinch brakes from the vertical section of the vertical lift. Maybe these were causing problems? Curious, can you find an image of that anywhere? Not a picture, but in this video at 1:23 you can see them lying on the floor behind the vertical li...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

The Krave promotion teaser image was not due to the opening of the smiler, it is for the build up to the competition Krave are running for people to win VIP Smiler prizes and the competition starts on the 3rd June. They are merely promoting there upcoming competition, not the opening of the smiler. ...

It really does look complete now. Also, with may ending on Friday, they really need to get it open.

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Great photo's Barty. It's all coming together now (finally)! I can see this opening within a few days as long as testing has gone smoothly. One thing that does concern me is why the remaining fencing by the entry to the double barrel roll still hasn't gone in. They just left gaps and stopped install...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

But at least the meshing will not be over the whole queue line and only sections where close or inverting track pass overhead.

Not good for AT. Maybe this will be the kick that Merlin need to start investing and properly planning their ride development.

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

That image was taken a few days ago. The entrance board and height restriction board are not there however they have been in place for a few days now. I wouldn't imagine opening until everything is 100% complete.

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Well according to Towers new online queue times, Oblivion is apparently now '0 mins' instead of 'closed'. I wouldn't say that's is entirely reliable though.
