Re: London Underground Disccusion

I'll join the list of Northeners who aren't daunted by the tube, I think it's great although it's not as much fun when it's heaving busy. I've started coming down to London do some odd bits of work although I don't think I'd enjoy it as much if all I was doing was the rush hour commute every day. I ...

Re: A Realistic Enterprise Leaving Date!

If we do have a Disk-O, I'd much rather it be the standard single curve version like The Navigator at Flamingoland rather than the ones with the 'hump' like Kobra at Chessie. I thought the hump did nothing on Kobra especially as it seemed to slow right down to take it with no airtime at all.

Re: Air Tunnel

They're a business, whenever they spend money on additions they have to prove that it will bring them more money back as a result. Ultimately the GP don't really care about the state of the tunnel, that's just what's there. I am inclined to agree, as much as it could have been something much better ...

Re: Chessington World Of Adventures: General Discussion

Chessington staff win on conversation for me based on one of the staff a month or so on Vampire, somebody had decided to lose their lunch on the stairs out of the station, so we all had to go up the other side of the railing. We were generally muttering that someone had been sick as we walked past a...

Re: Blackpool Tower

I've been up to Blackpool twice now and both times they've not had the actual tower open because of wind. I appreciate that there's H&S issues with wind, but my problem is that they were supposed to open at 10:30 but it was too windy, and at 11:00 they sent most of the staff home so they wouldn'...

Re: BG Williamsburg 2012: "Verbolten" multi-launch Zierer

I do feel slightly sorry for Intamin though, their freefall system is far slicker than the Zierer version and has clearly had a lot more effort put into it with the majority of the mechanism invisible to the riders but parks now seem to be going for the Zierer version for budget reasons I imagine.

Re: Nemesis: Sub-Terra Discussion (May Contain Spoilers)

Surely Oblivion's marketing was almost entirely based on saying how fear inducing the ride was? The only difference being that the ride itself was actually very intimidating. I suppose that's the one difference between Oblivion and Sub-Terra's marketing, Oblivion focussed on your emotions building u...

Re: The Future of Gloomy Wood- Upgrades Ideas

There isn't much room behind the toilets really, you could maybe squeeze a ride in between Duel and the Monorail sidings although the Duel building would be completely exposed. http://www.google.com/maps?q=Alton+Towers,+Stoke-on-Trent,+Staffordshire+ST10+4DB,+United+Kingdom&hl=en&ll=52.98840...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

I'd have thought the vertical lift would be a chain lift, I can't imagine a tyre driven lift would be able to cope with a vertical incline.

I shudder to think what a sideways-on vertical lift would be like.

Re: Nemesis: Sub-Terra Discussion (May Contain Spoilers)

Instead a red light stayed on and you saw the panel turn from the full egg to the hatched :'( This is starting to sound like a pretty major issue, the park seems to have put a lot of effort into improving the ride but seeing this effect in operation sounds like it will completely kill any atmospher...

Re: How does TV make so many props/sets but theming in parks is so rare

Like DiogoJ42 said, TV sets and the like generally only look good on screen, even if it was out of your reach on a ride it would still look cheap and flimsy to the naked eye. I also can't even begin to imagine how weird everything would look if everything was covered with a layer of shiny clear resin.

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

I watched a POV of Eejanaika and tbh, I counted 2 inversions (where you're actually upside down). I do think the inversion record is unlikely for SW7, if they did manage to somehow fit them into the layout it would be horribly paced, nothing but inversion after inversion and very few moments to get ...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

I'd worry if they went for the record that, if the layout remains mostly true to the released plans, that there will be too much movement and inversions, and not enough slightly slower pace sections to let you catch your breath and get your bearings. That being said though, with a roll inside the bi...

Re: Nemesis: Sub-Terra Discussion (May Contain Spoilers)

Perhaps if someone slapped a diffusion filter over the LEDs, that might soften it to improve the effect. I don't really have a problem with the lifts personally, it might be nice if they 'accelerated' to the fast speed rather than just being on or off at that speed, and then slowed down at the end. ...

Re: Alton Towers 2012 in Review

+ Duel I've also noticed original sound effects from the Haunted House have been added to Duel now, such as the 'are you scared of spiders' audio, which brings a nice new sound to the ride while also giving us enthusiasts some good old nostalgia. I'm pretty sure that isn't new this season, I've hea...
