Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

I can understand marmalisation being borderline offensive. However "getting corrected" is no worse than the overall theme in terms of what happened. Really bizarre move in my opinion. I hope the fact they didn't go through the effort of painting over the exit wall is a sign that the only c...

Re: SW8

I'm hopeful that the theme will be light hearted for a change based off the initial promo banner. Of all the SW's Air/Galactica is the only one that doesn't revolve around a sinister theme.

I really wouldn't be surprised if they start ripping down the flume in the next few months too.

Re: Galactica - 2016 Air Re-theme

It doesn't read like a giant advertisement where they've been paid to say nice thi...

Re: Towers Loving Care

It'll be interesting to see if they continue daily updates from tomorrow onwards. Hopefully they'll move the attention to all of the closed attractions that people can't already see on park themselves. Also I'll be very happy of they keep that as the new monorail theme! The current theme is so unins...

Re: Ride Closures/Removals in 2016

Gutted about the courtyard BBQ, was one of my favourite places to eat. I can only assume this means there'll be no more pirate show too?

Re: Galactica - 2016 Air Re-theme

Can also confirm I won free tickets and fastracks 4 days ago and got my confirmation email just fine!
That said, the email confirmation is far from convincing, I have no idea how they're gonna verify it other than my email address. Apparently you just show them the email at admissions.

Re: Towers Loving Care

I'm hoping that "major work" around Rita involves sorting out the launch cable walkway.

Also kind of chuckled that they're showing off their freshly painted shutters, reminding us that although half their food outlets will be shut, at least they'll look pretty!

Re: Galactica - 2016 Air Re-theme

Has there been any sort of confirmation yet of a repaint? Or, to be honest more importantly on Air, a Jet wash? It was started to head the same way as Colossus from what I remember...

Re: Towers Loving Care

I could see them running shuttle busses instead of the Monorail on ultra-quiet days, depending on gate figures. Isn't that what they do during Feb Half term?

Re: Galactica - 2016 Air Re-theme

Samsung VR is also readily available at a considerably low price point too. Vive will most likely cost twice if not more than the cost of SVR. Out of curiosity does Europa still offer an ORP? Seems a little pointless with half your face obstructed. If not then do you think maybe there'll be a green ...

Re: Planning Application for Enhancements to Air

It's easier said than done to remove any article attached to you while you're restrained into a ride. Let alone the fact you won't be able to actually see anything once the headset is on.

Re: Ride Closures/Removals in 2016

If the foodloop isn't set to open until mid-season, and presumably air v2.0 too, Surely the whole area beyond Nemesis will be fenced off anyway? They'll probably do some work on the Air Plaza, and if they're really paying close attention to detail, then "Air" is actually written in the bri...

Re: Planning Application for Enhancements to Air

They'd need to so a lot of work on the pre drop to cope with the strains of a launched lift surely? And do launched flying coasters even exist? If not surely merlin would have tacked in the world's first into the marketing by now.

Re: Keeping Alton Towers Resort Safe & Secure

Most of Merlin's parks benefit from rather small pinch point entrances, a lot of counter terrorism is about watching peoples behaviours, and looking for red flags. Compared to universal and Disney's sprawling entrances, where it would be easy for someone to blend in to a crowd, it would be quite eas...

Re: Alton Towers ownership future

The thing you have to accept about Merlin, is that if the park weren't backed by them, and perhaps family owned like Drayton Manor, chances are The Smiler incident probably would've bankrupted the park and shut it down. There's not really a great deal of scope for the park to be sold on. The Majorit...

Re: Ride Closures/Removals in 2016

There could also be the possibility some of these rides need major safety upgrades after HSE have been sniffing around. They were probably allowed to open to the end of the season providing the issues were fixed after. With all Mack flumes out of operation for whatever reason, maybe this could have ...

Re: Ride Closures/Removals in 2016

If they're gonna cut, they should just move to Fri/Sat/Sun openings for these rides imo. The flume is understandable as its presumably something out of Merlin's control as with all their Mack flumes. However on a busy weekend, all these rides still get fairly big queues. It may not turn out to be al...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

When the news first hit, I definitely decided I was going to base the severity of the event on whether the girls did end up losing their legs or not. I think that's what bumped the whole incident up a notch for me. And it would have been interesting to see if this whole thing would have had the same...

Re: Fireworks 2015

We actually overheard a bizarre conversation between some of the security and few other guests while we were there on Sunday, the security guard was explaining that apparently a few thousand pounds worth of fireworks had gone missing and possibly were stolen from the site. I'm not sure how reliable ...
