Re: The Smiler - Speculation

First off, who is to say Alton Towers requested this? Why couldn't Gerstlauer of implemented a new rollback system to allow for a more efficient evacuation procedure - instead of it being done on the vertical plane, they can roll the train back lower to the ground making it easier. They have develop...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

If Alton towers had been denied permission to build a coaster due to fears over a simple lifthill ratchet being too noisey, we would have had renewed plans specifically saying new silent lifthill, if it were as amazing as that, they would have put this forward in the council meeting as reasons why ...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

I know i'm going to get hate from this but they AT would not have invested money into a failsafe for a failsafe. If this was the case fins would be needed along all of the lift section but there not. Instead they are randomly spaced and there are none towards the top. Failsafe for a failsafe? To me...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Has anyone noticed how at the back of the station, where the final brake run meets the station, there's what looks like a gate? Does anyone know what this might be for? https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/644626_474183512652098_470646018_n.jpg Can you find a clearer image than th...

How long dos it normally tae for carrige to be installed. How are they actualy lifted on there because they look heavy.sorry if i have gone off subject. They are lifted with a crane and will be feed onto the track in sections (whether it be two by two or individual rows) then joined together to cre...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

I've spotted the feet are coloured. They arnt staying that way are they, I'll be honest they don't match at all.. Or could it just be to help the workers know where they are going? The coloured sections are just the framing for the feet. The actually feet theming goes over the top and I assume it's...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Was on site today. Basically what was happening was: * More painting on the Maintenance shed (Mr twirly). * Putting feet on more of the legs. * Work up the first lift, there was one bloke up there for a while. * Work on the vertical lift hill. Three blokes were up there for a considerable amount of ...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

I read a comment on youtube, and I totally agree: StaticVeins: "The Disorientator" will be the indoor barrel roll featuring strobes and other effects. Note the screen says "carriage rotation", not "carriage rotationS" - the number is referring to degrees in a rotation,...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

I am trying to work out why the frames for the feet themeing are coloured?!  Surely they are going to be clad over anyway. Yes the coloured frames are just that, frames. They will be covered over with the actual foot cladding. I am guessing they are colour coded so they know where they go rele...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

My thoughts on 'The Disorientator' The screen goes up from 0 to 360 - I'm guessing that is the number it stops at and restarts from 0. The word below it is ' Rotation ' (meaning one) not ' Rotations ' (meaning multiple rotations). So a 360 rotation (complete circle) is a Barrel roll like we have ind...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

I would be very surprised if the brakes are a roll back.  Just look at the top of the lift hill where there are almost none. Almost certain H&S would ever allow that If it is indeed for evacuation purposes, they wouldn't need to go all the way to the top. The speed from the top till the po...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Testing requires enough time to find the "ride results" ... If any of the values are 'extreme' or 'ultra-extreme', they will simply demolish one of the more nauseating parts of the ride and build a less nauseating one. It often only takes one circuit for the results to pop up, occasionall...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

It's just the quadrail connecting to the trirail track I don't know, if you zoom in on the actual wheel rails they don't seem like they align fully...the lift section looks higher rail wise than the next piece. Could be the angle. Although, still looks like there working on it so it will get sorted.

Yeah originally sounded like it would be tonight, but with the news of the topping off going on tomorrow looks like it will be ...

Re: Feedback for smiler construction and speculation on TTF

Would just like to say a few things... Well the time is coming to where the construction comes to an end. What an amazing time we have had over the last year and a half speculating, considering and pondering over what has become The Smiler. The plans were released and we all went into inspector mode...
