Re: SW8

I suppose there is point waiting for the day when Merlin pull their ego out of their back side and stop obsessing with this "worlds first" culture. They are perfectly capable of just making a good coaster. Dollywood were getting the first launched woodie but that's been delayed. I suppose ...

Re: Galactica - 2016 Air Re-theme

Another tech article that may be of interest. http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2016-03/18/galactica-alton-towers-virtual-reality-rollercoaster-samsung-gear-vr" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I still don't see how they are getting away with this "first/only dedicated roller-coa...

Re: Galactica - 2016 Air Re-theme

For those quite passionately debating the merits of pre-rendered footage against why it's likely not to be pre-rendered, I will point out it is possible to have both statements to be true about content, not only possible but already used a in the entertainment industry, especially concerts. Content ...

Re: Galactica - 2016 Air Re-theme

I'm pleased the old girl is getting a new lease of life in some guise, I'll be surprised if I prefer the VR experience over the current Mk1 eyeball, I'll give it a try mind. It looks like it's all bolted onto the train as something you can put on if you want it. What has amazed me how much the Marke...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

Well it is more or less what I was expecting from an early stage, the operation being taken out of automatic mode and overridden. I can't imagine what these people involved are going through. It's good news for the manufacturer and for Alton that nothing has gone wrong with with the equipment or mai...

Re: Thorpe Park - New Indoor Attraction 2016

Is there any indication on who's supplying the ride system yet? We've had no indication of as yet which is quite surprising considering we are near the end of the season. If I was forced to make an early bet, I'd say a Mack Suspended. The internal structure of what we've seen so far reminds me a lo...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

What if the HSE don't want the system to be overrided in the first place? Then some other thing would be needed (some key to access it or something). That is already how the system is - on just about all rides. There are a number of key-switches on a rides control panel(s) that enable various funct...

Re: Alton Towers - General Discussion

Well I visited for the first time for about 5-6 months, the car park was full by midday but as it seems to be the case at the moment, it's mostly families. I had all the major rides done by 11.30 taking my time. The main thing I've certainly noticed (which I'm sure has been commented on before) is a...

Re: At what age can you not handle thrill rides anymore?

I've never been a fan of stationary/spinning type rides, some are worse that others. In regards to roller coasters, well I've turned 30 now, I certainly can handle them individually, but I can't just run round like a look and just do them one after another in such short time span, that's the main di...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

Ignoring the intolerable music, the branding is quite strong. As much as I'd hate to see a re brand on something so quickly, the reality is I can see it being strongly considered with the stigma that will be attached to this ride and the name.

Re: Alton Towers - General Discussion

Where I read fault/stuck, instead, I read safe. The ride has stopped for a reason, how is this bad, it's inconvenient, but you're safe....also quite comfy. :lol I don't see how the ride stopping is a "fault". It must be quite frustrating to deal with so many online experts these days. It's...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

It was a human error as well as a technical problem as a ride op he should of waited for the test car to come back to the station till he dispatched another with people on. As a technical error the block sencers weren't working as a result the accident was unstoppable because there was no brake run...

Re: The Smiler Incident 02/06/15

A quick way to resolve the stalling issue is to just add some LSM's onto the bat wing element. It's highly unlikely that Alton would ever utilise electromagnetic launching technology on any ride, not without a significant power supply upgrade to the site. ...or a flywheel. Interestingly PowerPark o...

Re: Two Smiler trains collide -- BREAKING

@TowersTimes: As a result of today's incident, @altontowers will not open tomorrow (3/6/15). The park will either re-validate tickets, or refund guests. I'm not sure what to make of this, there have been very serious accidents on rides at AT before, but they have never taken this measure. Makes me ...

They have cameras covering sections of the track, but the operator I would assume would have no reason to track every train through the 3 block sections of the ride.

Re: Two Smiler trains collide -- BREAKING

It is not the ops fault. The op is able to dispatch trains no what or how soon it has been since the last has been dispatched. How most rollercoaster ride systems in the world work is that no 2 trains enter one track section at a time, and are held there until a sensor on the other end of the ride ...

Re: Two Smiler trains collide -- BREAKING

The General Public are definitely not on Alton's side; I just hope it doesn't effect the company too badly They never have been even on a good day, just look Alton Towers or Thorpe's twitter page on any given day, imbreds posting "I think I deserve a fast pass because Air just broke down, I wa...
