Re: The Smiler - Speculation

May i point you towards this post.. This sums it up really.. http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1131786#p1131786 The noise recordings will have to be done on "a" coaster somewhere with similar features. If they were orginalyl going for Gerstularer they would have done th...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

The wording of the noise report for Th13teen (also prepared by Atkins) was... "Noise from the planned new coaster was modelled on a similar one located at Thorpe Park. The Thorpe park ride “No Way Out” is totally enclosed within a metal framed/clad building." It didn't actually state anyth...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

Just to make it clear to all of you who still do not think this is a Eurofighter in 3.1 of the noise report is states Noise from the planned new coaster was modelled based on a similar one located at Thorpe Park. The Thorpe Park ride, “Saw” is the same type and manufacturer as the proposed ride, in...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

I made one point that it could be the same track style though as I've heard that some coaster companies use the same manufacturers for actually making the track. It was more of an inquiry really. I'm sorry if it was wrong of me to ask. I'm not sure about the track you mentioned, but I know this hap...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

Good shout, actually. I totally forgot Intamin's new style track. But the lift supports are nothing like Farenheight, and the supports seem to be round, not square, and don't appear to be Intamin style. Thirteen was compared to a Vekoma, so it's possible I suppose, I haven't seen Gerstlauer specifi...

Re: Ultimate Fireworks 2011

I wasn't able to get to the fireworks, but having watched the video it really looked like a great event. Does anyone know who did the design for it?

Great work with the video too!

Re: Next Major Coaster to leave the towers...............

As Boz mentioned, if the entrance relocation happens, that would then help some of Spinballs problems, although I do think this is a potential as the next to go, as already said it's earmarked for relocation, and this could always be to a more family orientated, or upcoming Merlin attraction rather ...

Re: High Court challenge over noise - guess who's back...

As Fredward suggested earlier, is there any corolation between when the Ropers have taken action and when large rides plans are about to be submitted? Obviously they have grievancies with Alton Towers as an entity, so they could be of the mindset where they're happy to go to extremes to prevent deve...

Re: Permanent Lighting

Putting on my work hat this is a really interesting topic (I'm a lighting designer and engingeer). I think the current sollution AT uses is very practical for them for various reasons. From a finance point of view, although in the very long run hiring generators and the flood towers would probably w...

Re: Ride Failures/Breaking Down

I was on park for the opening weekend of Scarefest and was chatting with one of the staff on Thirteen. He was saying they'd had no end of "breakdowns" that day due to lots of people pushing against the loading pen gates while the ride was in motion (anyone who was there on the Sunday could...

Re: 2012: Nemesis - What Lies Beneath... Part 2

Not sure if it was this military vehicle previously used but it is/was sitting behind the studios.
