Re: Thorpe Park 2012: The Swarm

this is a bit late but in answer to two questions all the B&M coasters i've seen store at least one train in the station overnight both nemesis coasters have only room for one train in the maintenance bay and i'm sure this will be the same and i can happily state that those are definitely brand ...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

The problem we have, is that no one can say 100 percent who is making this coaster at the moment. We have two pieces of hard evidence, the drawings, which show a coaster track of a familiar but new style of track. And we have the noise planning document. Out of those two documents, the drawings are...

Re: 2012: Nemesis Sub-Terra... Part 2

indeed we will however any tower requires a box or at the very least tri-section to make up the tower two rails and a spine with room inside for the electronics and raising/lowering cable system, which wil make it stick out by at least 1.5m minimum then the gondola frame and wheel assemblies will ca...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

I don't believe you, either. Surely an official member on the development team would be sworn to secrecy over any construction. they are, as a former ride op i know for a fact that ALL members of staff have to sign a disclaimer stating that they cannot reveal ANY information about park operations t...

Re: 2012: Nemesis Sub-Terra... Part 2

I have a national certificate that covers such things so i know of which i speak. Fair enough  :) So, out of interest, why do they bother making the lines cross over each other in front of the doors? Or are the lines meant to indicate support structures? that i don't have a definitive answer f...

Re: 2012: Nemesis Sub-Terra... Part 2

as i also stated, the platforms are drawn on the plan they are NOT grid lines They look like measurement lines to me no measurement lines are Capped at each end like a capital I, these are not , they are also joined to other wall/floor sections. the dashed lines are representative of where the roof...

Re: 2012: Nemesis Sub-Terra... Part 2

@Boz - as stated above, if the towers are backed onto the wall they will be single row towers, not the 2 row towers that ABC advertise on their site. The 7m clearance is assuming the 2 row configuration. Remove a row from the back and you're probably looking at something more like 4m depth needed. ...

Re: 2012: Nemesis Sub-Terra... Part 2

i have shown in my sketchup model previously that the areas around the edge ARE platforms, anyone who has studied engineering/architectural plans can tell you that. the clearance required for 1 individual 10 across drop tower drop tower (according to ABC's technical specification), is 7m deep by 8m ...

Re: 2012: Nemesis Sub-Terra... Part 2

interesting info there notice how NOW they are not commenting as opposed to months ago when the were releasing press statements and "giving hints to coaster force members". i'm just saying, it's a bit curious how there is suddenly so much secrecy, but at least we know that they are confirm...

Re: Indoor rollercoaster needed for alton towers.

i think that, although the idea seems to be a bit far fetched due to the work needed to convert it from a car park and of course it does seem like it could become cluttered. however the 10 year plan DID mark that location as a possible coaster location as well as the conversion of both main car park...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

I'd say on the top level of the big building like saw. On those 3d renderings of the building, how does the return entry track get to the big hole in the side of the top level building. The plans show it entering at the maintenance building, that door is level with the roof of the canopy and higher...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

forgot to model in the stairs #-o there are access stairs on the maintenance/transfer area leading into the main building at the same level as the return track so i guess the platform will be immediately after entering the station. judging by the clearance on the right hand side i think that the tra...

Re: Hopi Hari 2012: Intamin 10 looper

i worked at Thorpe as a winter maintenance assistant during the 2005/2006 closed season, and can quite categorically state for the record that even back then, those trains were damn close to being condemned. that year the second train went back into operation three weeks after the park reopened (in ...

Re: 2012: Nemesis Sub-Terra... Part 2

I'm still trying to work out how this thing works, as I'm unable to view the video. I imagine that all four sides of the tower must have to rotate together? Surely if they can move to one face at the same time it'd not only throw out the weight distribution, but also mean any drop is limited due to...

I was expecting a slightly more terrifying name but i'm sure it will grow on me, in the same way i originally thought that air's name was pants when they first released it, but i got over it the first time i rode it, and i'm willing to bet the same thing will happen here. correct me if i'm wrong but...

Re: Next Major Coaster to leave the towers...............

i found it difficult to pick between three rides Spinball is definitely not up for the chop, believe it or not a rides popularity/queue time plays an important factor in whether or not a ride stays or goes, although i do think a move/re-theme is in order. the ride i would love to go is Rita, I hate ...

Re: New Cable-Car for London

i love the idea and everything, but how the  :censored: does a cable car across a river cost £60 million, I'm pretty sure Alton's didn't cost even half that much (yes I'm taking inflation into account), and I'm pretty sure has a longer route, double the number of drive systems, 4 times the numb...
