Re: The Smiler - Speculation

I know it's a day late, but this 3D modelling stuff is slow work. Just one image to give you a better view of the finish I'm going for. You can see the new mesh fencing and also the mesh canopies. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7184/6780456316_8b4fea304e.jpg Hopefully more on Sunday.

Re: New to the forum? Introduce yourself here!

Just realised I've not introduced myself. My real name's Dan and to avoid confusion I was not born in 94, Nemesis was. Nemesis94 is my PSN tag too, so made sense to use that. I'm actually of 85 vintage, a maths grad and college lecturer in Sheffield. Been a TowersTimes stalker for quite a while, onl...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

I'm really going off on the basis of the transfer track. To me I think the way it is show on the plans is it is more of a full transfer track than a turntable or switch track section. The transfer track is likely too. But it doesn't mean the trains/cars will be as long as the transfer track. It cou...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

On the topic of "how many cars?" and for the benefit of those who couldn't download my No Limits recreation, I have it working with 8 eurofighter cars (the same number as SAW). In practice this has four cars in the station, with 2 unloading and 2 loading. One car heading to the first lift,...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

Hi all, thought I'd share the latest progress with my No Limits model. I've been rebuilding it from the ground up, literally. The old model was built over No Limits' very rough and inaccurate terrain. I have since been practicing my 3D modelling skills and have managed to build a better representati...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

For what it's worth, I thought I'd share my thoughts on the interior of the station building. It's not that dissimilar to Rollercoasters4Life's ideas. The only difference being the location of the stairs. Due to the position of the coaster track underneath the station, it is my opinion that the ride...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

Thought you might be interested to see what the "spider" looks like in my No Limits model. I only saw the new plans earlier today, so this is a very rough representation of it, just to give you an idea of the general scale of the thing. If Alton Towers pull this thing off, it could truly b...

Re: The future of Nemesis.....

Nemesis has sections of track replaced every year. Not necessarily whole track sections, sometimes it is just the rail that is replaced. Like all rides and structures, Nemesis will have a design life. I'm not sure how long it is, but I would guess it is definately 30 years plus (well into the 2020 o...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

Apologies that it's been a while coming, but my No Limits recreation is now available to download. I don't post often, but like some of my others, this one is pretty epic. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7025/6784285923_5a3b9350ac_z.jpg I wanted to give my model a bit more of an X-Sector feel to it, s...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

i remembered back to this post it seem that euro fighter and xcar tracks are made by the same company as are .intamin's tracks http://www.stakotra.sk so no reason that Gerstlauer could not use the same track as the xcar. and realised that the noise report could well mean that the manufacturer is st...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

just a question but would the new Schwarzkopf inspired track be less noticeable at a distance? If it's anything like Magnum Force and The Bullet at Flamingoland used to be, it will be &^$^%£&%* noisy!!!! Admittedly, it could have been the old Schwarzkopf trains that were the source of most ...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

It seems slightly strange to put all that detail into No Limits & Using custom supports etc. and not change the track... Custom supports don't take that long, I did my recreation in under 2 days. In fact, I used entirely custom supports, where the drawings have used some simple "plug in&qu...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

Can you test Euro-fighters with 3 or more carts in NoLimits? If not I'm sure this is why they didn't use their own Design. No you can't. The option to add extra cars is greyed out for both Eurofighter designs. Though I imagine that Gerstlauer can re-write the No Limits coding to do whatever they wa...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

Ready for a mini-revelation? This will be a long post, so bare with me. But it might put to bed some of the persistant Maurer talk, but in the process will open up some interesting questions about the track SW7 will use. The drawings for a coaster submitted in the planning documents, are (usually) f...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

Whilst we are talking about cars/trains, I've just had a thought. If this ride does end up with Eurofighter cars, that will mean both coasters in X-Sector just have single car trains. From a personal viewpoint, I think it would be great if SW7's cars had a similar design to Oblivions, and were made ...

Enjoy the ride...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

A quick note on the POV video. I got to 65% in the upload and found an error, with the vertical lift track slightly bowed. New video is in the works and all being well should be online this time tomorrow. Many thanks again to JAMMY777 for his help with this. PS It's staying as a eurofighter until we...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

I still have no reason to doubt it's anything other than Gerstlauer  :) I couldn't agree more. What with all the work I've done on the No Limits model, I think I've probably stared at those drawings longer than anyone. The drawings are for a Gerstlauer Euro-fighter. The combination of tight lo...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

The Final Update: I had a quick look at 3D modelling and have quickly built a rough representation of the station building, and added it to my model. So it is now finished. There is more I could do given time, but it's been pretty full on for the past few days and I've had enough. I imagine there wi...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

Hi all, here's the latest version of the No Limits recreation. It's getting there, with most of the fencing, groundwork and foliage in place. The only real blight is the station, it's just a very rough mock-up at the moment as I try to find time to create a 3D model (and learn how to use the softwar...
