Re: What rides are open when it rains?

Smiler warns you that "you may get slightly damp"

I closed my eyes for the vertical lift in the rain. Didn't like the thought of rain falling straight into my eyes. Rest of the ride was no problem, and that was in quite heavy rain.

Re: What's the most common age on this forum?

Also, under 10s? They shouldn't even have access to the internet imo, let alone be using online forums! Too true. On the other hand though, I'm 25 and I think us oldies (the 25+'ers) are a bit ignorant towards the age of Internet users these days. My family only got dialup Internet for the first ti...

And to think I spent a year just reading about the smiler construction, not realising all of this existed!

I'm not exactly new as I've been hanging around and lurking in the background for a while, but haven't really said anything until a few days ago.

I'm Matt, from Worcestershire :)

Re: Are manners and common courtesy going down the drain?

When I worked on a checkout part time a few years ago, I always found it rude if a customer was on the phone. I know there is no reason why we should have a conversation, but there is also no need to just ignore me! As a result I never use my mobile when being served in a shop. I also hate it when p...

Smells: doughnuts and chips

Re: I'm getting worried about Air

Seemed fine when I went on it last month. It's still one of the rides I have to go on when I visit Alton Towers  :)

Re: Anyone ever vomited on or after a ride?

Never been sick, but felt like I might be after Hex a few years ago. I think it's the old thing of the brain seeing one thing but feeling something different. There were a few that threw up as we came out

Not sure I can remember everything, but I do remember these:

Thunder Looper
Nemesis
Runaway Minetrain
The Flume
Rapids

Think it was Spring 96

Re: The Smiler

I have just been corrected. All I can say is WOW! Thought it was going to be a disappointing day when we were told it wasn't operating today, but then news quickly spread that it was open. Queue time was quickly above 2 hours, but despite the rain showers it was well worth queuing up for. Can't wait...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

It definitely stayed open. The drains weren't coping with the rain, but few seemed bothered. Was relieved as I went today to ride it for the first time, and for most of the day thought I wouldn't get to, but they got it going around 3pm. At lunch time I viewed an engineer climb by the inoculator leg...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

All I'm saying is that once there's an emergency, the ride by law has to stop immediately, until deemed safe... Once deemed safe there's no need to evacuate anymore... There is no law here. You don't know what you are talking about. It's liability, if the safety mechs are not there, AT can be held ...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

As a construction worker myself, It's mortar that can't be used in minus temperatures but concrete can, we use an additive called 'concure', it helps the concrete cure at low temperatures, down to about -3. I hope that clears it up for you. If it only works down to -3 it wouldn't have helped much r...

Re: Best and Worst Queue Lines At Alton

Best - Nemesis. As others have said, always seems to move fairly quick, and so close to the ride too. Worst - Rita. In Ug Land days I didn't mind the Rita queue as the Thunder Rock Radio took my mind off how long I'd been waiting. Even now I still think of Thunder Rock Radio whenever I hear Ring of ...
