Re: What is so good about Nemesis???

It captures my imagination. Some people prefer the actual layout of a coaster ignoring the landscape and scenery. Fair enough. They don't have the patience for artistry. I do, and I would take Nemesis over any American Goliaths any day. In my opinion a Theme Park is about escapism and 'play'. Hence ...

Re: TH13TEEN different drop systems?

Couldn't they just play the various events in sequence? Like Drop 1, next train gets drop 2. The next get drop 3, the next gets 1, the next gets 2 etc. I'm sure it cycling would be easier to programme than doing it randomly. Also, the chances are the riders won't know. It's not like you leave the ri...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

I hope the spider scenery piece adds a lot, as a poster above me wrote, the layout looks very exposed compared to the other rides. The X Sector seems to be about minimalism, but it's carefully thought-about minimalism. I hope the marriage of the Coaster into the zone is successful. The other coaster...

Re: Main thrill area at Alton Towers.

The setting of FV is quite intimidating but I did find X-Sector quite, disturbing. It's staring up at the drop of Oblivion from the floor (especially if it's over-cast and the sky is cloudy but still illuminated like Vegas) giving you vertigo. But if you sit near the hole for awhile you get used to ...

Re: Nemesis the Movie?

I think it would be too B-Movie-y. Wasn't Nemesis conceptualised in the 90s where the imagination of 'the future' was romantic-Power Rangers? So the story I don't think would work well today in less they bastardised it and ruin it. I'm impressed at Nemesis:ST update of it. I am gutted that the Phala...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

I believe SW7 will have staying power, because of its layout. If you boil down the other rides, they have rather, in comparison simplistic layouts. Oblivion, big drop which emerges with a half over-banker turn with a little dip. Nemesis is kinda one huge helix and inversions sprinkled around. RITA i...

Re: KILLER IDEA: Solar panels/farm powers your rides?

There is an eco-Coaster in Britain already, it's powered by a more reliable source: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfUs8PoXyak  In the Greenwood Centre in North Wales. Draw backs are its mechanism. The Coaster is pulled up the lifthill by riders-to-come standing on a platform than slowly ro...

Thunderlooper. I would be interest how you would theme and market such a simple layout in these days.

Re: Forbidden Valley

Did they ever let Ripsaw 'fountain' Nemesis' blood? I wouldn't mind Air's existence justified more. I highly doubt FV is so horrifying that they need an 'Oasis' to stop people going insane. So reinforce the contrast more or explain why Air even exists. It feels like an abstract metaphor placed in an...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

From an ignorant GP person who happens to think coasters are pretty; point of view, I hope it's an X-train over a Euro fighter because long trains are more interesting to look at than single car trains. Oblivion gets away with it at how 'weird' the train is. The train also makes it look almost mecha...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

A lot of research and development for this coaster type has already been done in numerous incantations. So there is a lot of space to do something unique with this ride. I won't be disappointed if it's a train thing, as long as the world-first element is an Engineer's fetish but something that would...

Re: A Nemesis range or rides

A "Wizarding World of Harry Potter" type ride for Nemesis. If AT can afford building one because the special affects have to be top-notch. Theme could be distant future where the Nemesis has broken free from its bounds and Phalanx are desperate to restraint it. They have been forced to rec...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

I highly doubt the 'world first' aspect is interactivity. It's an interesting concept, but could also seem a bit 'lame'? It sounds like an add-on rather than a unique concept. I mean it would sound more like an addon than a "free-fall drop section". At least that's a special track element....

Re: Things people say about AT that you really hate!

When I visited Alton Tower with someone I knew (not friend), I suggested going to see Air (not explicitly go on). His response was: "No, it looks too scary" Coming from someone who had tried for 7 mins to convince me that I would actually like to ride Corkscrew "that doesn't really go...

Re: Worst Experiences at Towers?

(I've been following this forum for a while and only now I decided to create an account) My worst and only experience is when I went on a School Trip to Alton Towers. A kid in the year below asked if he could go around with me in the park in the run-up and I said yes because I pittied him. He was ve...
