Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

The glass floor would be quite a nifty edition but how would they show the element if it is the washing machine as rumored? The glass floor would be in the shop, as said, which will be above the curving track after the drop out of the station, not above the SE, which would be under the maintenance ...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Has anyone worked out when we should roughly expect to see things done by (given the new opening date)? Including the different stages of construction, so; landscaping, groundwork, track, buildings, theming, testing and how each stage takes approximately. As then at least that gives us something to ...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Has anybody seen the latest tweet? "#THESMILER is coming to @altontowers RT if you think you're brave enough to experience this world first roller coaster!" Is this the Staffordshire knot? https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BBmxYe1CAAAT408.jpg:large Yes it is. They've released a number a picture...

Re: X Sector Refurbishment

Time to change the subject I think!

When will Enterprise and Submission be reassembled? I assume this relies on when X-Sector will be opened, as there'd be no point in getting those rides ready, if people can't ride them.

Re: X Sector Refurbishment

I agree that Oblivion may be 'affected' by The Smiler, but I highly doubt its theming will be changed much. It doesn't need to, and shouldn't change, it's keeping with the original X-Sector theme, and The Smiler won't influence a major re-theme of it. The reason The Smiler is in X-Sector will probab...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

after those images i do think there will be a washing machine element where stated before the first lift. now whether the lift will be launched or not is because gerstlauer seem to like to do launches from movement and not from still, especially as it's to go uphill. and with regards to the extra i...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

ah right sorry didn't see you had posted a comment before mine, which is basically confirming my question... so the miantenance shed hasn't been built yet, and the piece of track emerging is the start of the bit under the maintenance shed, which then makes sense space wise and the fact its indoors ...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

ah right... but just wondering the piece of track we can see on the latest image, is that emerging from the indoor section as shown on plans which doesn't seem right as people seem to think they can visually see the barrel roll or whatever inversion you want to call it, coming straight out into tha...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

I'll repost my diagram, just so you can see how much space there is! Remember the train won't be going that fast, as it comes back up after dropping, so you won't need a long break run, and the 'washing machine' is likely to have brakes in it too. http://i1300.photobucket.com/albums/ag85/lewis97/Int...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Please familiarise yourself with the station plan, before you make any further comments: http://publicaccess.staffsmoorlands.gov.uk/upload/PublicAccess/REV%20station%20plan%20&%20elev%20(39854).pdf As you can see, Canopy B goes under the track that's going back into the station, and so is provid...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Wow guys, come on now. Firstly - Look, this clear, (canopy b) is the place for secret element, I have noted with green.De anyway if glass floor would be located on the first drop. http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/3856/abcdefgggggggggg.jpg No, you are wrong Getothing. What you have highlighted the...

There is more than ample room to have the 4x4 train in the SE area alone.... there is a whole separate area past that for the transfer track to sit!!!

Is it only me and you who can comprehend this??? There's plenty of space, there's no doubt about it whatsoever!

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

If the washing machine is inside the maintenance building, will there really be enough room for a 4 train transfer track plus the 4 train washing machine element? Im interested to know what the area is of canopy 11 and above canopy A? could the track extend throughout this area? The washing machine...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

There they would require a switch track to get the trains to maintenance which would take up some space but i think you may be right on that one. I was unaware that lift started that late. From what i have seen is that the second it came out the station building it started the lift. The track I've ...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Look how much space there is! The dotted line is the track yet to be erected, and that is where the SE is likely to go. The barrel roll has to have finished by the straight as you can't have a barrel roll that goes around a corner! EDIT: What else would they have there? It wouldn't just be a long s...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

I don't know about you but if it was the washing machine element then i would advertise it as 2 worlds first as it would be the first to have the element and the first with  (insert number here) many inversions. Also the washing machine would have to be very strong to hold the 2 tonnes of trac...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

You say you'd prefer it at the end, but that could only happen if it was the 'washing machine'. Obviously anything else, like a launch, couldn't go at the end. However, I doubt it will be at the end, as there doesn't seem enough space in the station building, in the plans, for it go. If it was the '...

Re: X Sector Refurbishment

How do they access the Oblivion pit for maintinence? Or will they not bother painting the pit because 'it's in the dark anyway'? I think it can be accessed from the end the ride comes out (the pond). But like you say, they probably won't bother painting that track, because no one will be able to se...
