Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

In other news. I'm literally EXPLODING with excitement and i'm not even there! :D Me too! I was a little green with envy at first, having just left the park yesterday, but now I'm nothing but excited! To be honest, looking at the crowds in all the photos, I'm kind of glad that I'm not there today :...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Towers Nerd brings us a short video of the first test of the day:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=IPT9UuctoAU

It seems to be screeching a little still, but nowhere near as badly as it was.

Is it screeching?

No one's mentioned it, but according to Towers Nerd, it is duelling ;)

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

I was just outside the smiler and I asked a member of staff if there was any chance of it opening and they replied " it may open later this afternoon but it is unknown at the minute". I'm praying it will open!! At this point - with the removed "closed" signs, temporary queue fen...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

.. And to all the doubters and the negative people ... Ha , we told you so ! Just been told exactly the same by the Towers Street. The ride WILL open today but didn't give a specific time ! I'm seeing 11am being thrown around by some people in comments on Facebook posts. Don't know if its a guess o...

TowersStreet's Facebook:

A long queue has formed outside X Sector for The Smiler. Staff are informing guests the ride may open later today!

Looks like it's official - TODAY IS THE DAY!

TowersStreet have just posted on Facebook to say the boards at the entrance saying The Smiler is closed have been moved! It's looking good! EDIT: Theme Park Worldwide have just posted "We're at the front of the queue-line for The Smiler!" I guess it's open then? http://sphotos-h.ak.fbcdn....

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Right, I think there may be a loophole here. AT could have still classed the ride as opening on the 23rd, it just had technical difficulties and was not working properly, similarly to Saw on it's opening day. Therefore, it does not needto open in May as it already has. Looks stupid now I have writt...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Oh well..its been confirmed that Alton Towers will not give an exact date when the smiler will open.comfirmed on watchdog.. Absolutly gutted  :( It's clear AT aren't giving out the date until they're sure. Or maybe they're not giving it out at all until it's open. The BBC will just be going of...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Finally back home after two great days on park. I imagine all the exciting developments from today have been posted well before this (curse my horrific phone signal!), like the queue board update, all fencing removed, etc., so I'll just leave you with this assessment: Bar a few finishing touches tha...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Back from first day on park. Really not much to report on The Smiler front all day. The horrid rust-coloured mesh covering the queue line was thankfully being painted to match the rest of the fencing. Speaking of fencing, saw a couple of workers making their way around the site, seeming to be assess...

I'm on park today and tomorrow. Will take any pictures and relay any updates I find out! Any pics or info will probably be posted to Twitter first as it's easier. @StaticVeins if anyone is interested!

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Call me crazy and most of you will disagree but is there a possibility it will open tomorrow? The only reason I say this is because they have been saying that it won't open at least a day in advance on day to day basis and there has been no confirmation that it won't be open tomorrow. I mean what a...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Towers have just given up telling everyone it will be closed the following day, and are simply listing it as closed on their website. They will most likely make the next announcement as to when it opens. Yeah, I understand what you mean but people who are not following this closely could get confus...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Someone tweeted AT earlier asking whether they should cancel/change their hotel booking for this sat regarding the smiler. they replied "we'd say wait for at least a day or so, you can postpone anytime before your visit should you need to" Sounds promising? Oh man. That does sound promisi...
