Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

There's currently a crane back on The Smiler site. As Boz has said X-Sector is closed off and there's about 20 staff members lining the grass in front of the towers, and I overheard one saying that X-Sector is likely to be closed for the most of the day. Maybe the site is being finished off for an ...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Interesting photo from Towers Nerd Live, taken just after closing: http://live.towersnerd.com/coverage/1369327231.jpg Health and safety survey? Who knows! Certainly looks like, it or at least some kind of inspection, to me. Here's hoping after some construction magic overnight and tomorrow, we'll ge...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Just an educated guess that The Smiler will be open on Saturday. Although the Resort aren't confirming an opening date - they're very much playing it on a day to day basis. If you don't quite understand that - basically yesterday, they said it won't be open today and today they've said it won't be ...

Large tarpaulin being worked under ( electrics ? ) lots of cutting / drilling / welding .... Cars not moved all day but more fence line installed. Pic at [email protected] At least it looks like they'll be doing night work. Unsurprising they'll be going into overdrive now. Missing the Thursday ope...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Why cant they say what the problem is instead of teething problems then the public would be a little more sympathetic. is it H & S or is there a bigger problem. i am interested to know what H & S probs are. a risk assment would have been made to let media ride with one train runnig but it p...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

The ride is generally just Not ready to be opened today. Alton towers have tried to please us by opening it as soon as possible and obviously were too soon because lots of little things just aren't ready! That's certainly the way it looks. Queue and general area fencing not complete, ground work st...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

when i then asked about the smiler i was told it will not be open until probability of end of May into June time at time of press but news will go on the alton towers website before they know. I don't know if I buy that. If they thought it won't be open until the last days of May/early June, wouldn...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Well - went to guest services and had a "polite " moan. The girl only found out from a colleague this morning that Smiller wasn't opening. She thinks it will be well into weekend before they are even close to opening. Got some Fast Passes though for being polite :-) Ouch. Imagine coming i...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Alton towers twitter have answered some questions today to say further information will be published this afternoon. Expected. They've only said it won't be open today so far, so they're kind of obliged to say "it won't be open tomorrow either" at some point today at the very least. Let's...

Oh dear... *SNIP* "Some hopeful customers. They may have a long wait..." From TowersTimes Live Woah that does NOT look good at all! I empathise with Alton Towers, but this is really, really not good... They really should be telling them to move along somehow :/ Looks an absolute mess ! Th...

Issue with getting the train to connect to the chain on the v-lift? Hopefully that's just a matter of moving the sensor a bit further forward :P

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Think it's pretty safe to say the v-lift is the problem then?

Here's hoping it's something they can get fixed over the next day or two!

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

TowersStreet have just posted to Facebook that work is currently being done on both the queue line fencing and the vertical lift. Staff are at the ride telling the public it isn't open and that there is no set date for it to open just yet.

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

I've just seen a picture of workers hammering on the first lift hill. Why would they still be up there if there wasn't a issue? Can you put the picture on here please ? It wouldnt be massive work , possibly doing final touches to somethings on the lift hill. Who knows ! I think it's safe to say tha...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

So the fencing isn't complete? That's enough to stop the ride opening for sure, especially when said fencing is around a bloody great pit! I don't understand why it wouldn't be complete by this point though. I think the delay is probably down to one of two reasons; something else is holding it up so...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

More news from Team on park this evening! A second ultra-reliable source has confirmed The Smiler not opening due to H&S not being signed off yet. This source has confirmed that the ride will not open tomorrow. There is a small chance it may open Friday, but that is very speculative. This is go...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

I'm unsure of the validity of the claim myself, but I'm assured that this info came from a contact who has supplied reliable info in the past. I would remind everyone not to get your hopes up, as Towers wouldn't have made the decision to announce its closure tomorrow, unless they have genuine conce...
