Re: Alton Towers - General Discussion

I'm not sure exactly where this belongs but TowersStreet have spotted what look like new boats for Congo River Rapids! With doors, headrests and grab bars :) https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t31.0-8/23456511_1671957889541315_4099423994898730769_o.jpg?oh=0b2747a6d1d3f4626061805fe50bc234&oe=...

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

Managed to find a photo, you can see it really clearly here whilst Timbers was being built. But POVs from previews/post opening show they were later removed.

Re: Towers Loving Care

Oh don't get me wrong, by all means I agree the ride is in an awful state, it's just sad to think that there are reasons for believing that Merlin won't make it a priority this time round :(

Re: Towers Loving Care

The bins were removed from The Smiler's queue line earlier this season, unofficially to do with the heightened threat of attack on the country at the time. They were never completely put back but a few were placed back in towards the end of the season. The queue is cleaned at the beginning and end o...

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

Unfortunately this isn't the case. I had a similar theory but that sawtooth style thing between the two rails is actually something that RCS use for reference when rail laying. Not sure exactly how, but a similar thing was done with Mystic Timbers which was then removed when the rails were finished.

Re: Capt. Barnacles SW8 Recreation

Figured we all deserve an update on how I'm faring with this since the season is now over, so I recorded a POV! A keen eye will notice I've restarted the supports now, after not being happy with the beam dimensions before. But anyway, here's your POV and keep in mind, it's heavy work in progress sti...

Re: End of Season Review 2017

I can echo Justin's words here. This season I've spent more time on resort than any other and at times it's been nice to just leave the theme park be and enjoy some time elsewhere. Had a couple evenings where I've not even got on resort until around 5-6pm, and just enjoyed myself. That being said, t...

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

Well from interpreting the plans and putting together the recreation I have, it's looking like around a 22m difference from top to bottom. By comparison, that's 4m taller than Th13teen's drop.

Re: Fireworks

I personally loved this year's show, decided now it is by far the best one I've seen in the three years I've been going to the shows, and of course same as last year, Dave from Virtual Towers Online took a high quality (4K 60FPS) recording of the entire show, which just uploaded to his channel, so f...

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

That looks to me like the tech services warehouse next to the Skyride garage. Which would make sense for them to have been put there.

Re: SW8 Speculation and General Discussion

Yes I really really think this is being delved into WAY too far. I doubt any such named theming structures exist and the theming inside The Welcoming probably hasn't got that elaborate of a story behind it, because let's face it, the GP simply won't care for it.

Re: SW8 Area Speculation and Discussion

Well I mean if you think Merlin will fork out for an extensive retheme of Battle Galleons and the whole area sure! I personally doubt it completely.

Re: Merlin General Discussion

Nothing more I can add to this point but agree with Owen, that Icon is the one and only reason I'm returning to BPB next year for the first time in well over 10 years. My last visit was before Infusion was built and they've done nothing to entice me to go anytime soon, but Icon will change that.

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

It's interesting all that stuff is there NOW, considering there's been LOADS of black plastic 'crates' and pipes just sitting near the old flume entrance for several months now. Be interesting to see if it's those if the stuff isn't there anymore.

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

0 chance. The bents are already in place and have been since long before the theming element first got covered up months ago. It's just a drop through the structure.

Good to see they're finally preparing the shop foundation! Looks like everything is staying true to plans with this one, unlike another secret weapon we could name :sus:

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

There's a foundation a fairly significant distance PAST where the gradient change is, which based on observations of other GCIs is where the lift motor will be mounted. (It's that big concrete block that looks really out of place so far)

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

It was a bit difficult to pick up any photos of it yesterday but the rails have been laid all the way round the turn off the lift and starting to be taken down the drop underneath. Layers are also being built up on the flat turn near the shop. Something more significant worth noting is the chain ret...
