Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

I think we need to be grateful that we're getting a themed wall rather than a simple concrete one. They really seem to be going for the theming with SW8, even little things like the wooden land braces that they have installed around the footers. I never said that I was ungrateful... I merely just t...

Re: SW8 Construction Discussion

Blimey, the station and maintenance building is going up faster than I can build a station in Planet Coaster!

Re: SW8

The things is, none of those conditions would seem to apply to the demolition of The Flume so there's no clear reason why that didn't get underway before closed season. The Resort know the planning process that their major developments have to go through, with those conditions being standard as far...

Re: SW8

I've been looking around the Staffordshire Moorlands Planning website and I think I've found at least one of the reasons nothing has happened onsite yet. This is from the letter granting permission for SW8: ..the relevant part of the development hereby approved shall not be installed until full deta...

Re: Galactica - 2016 Air Re-theme

Here's the portal at night that I filmed last week. So much more effective at night! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5v1flsidpqY" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; To say that was impressive would be an understatement. Some seriously good work from Merlin there. I know, it's such a sham...

One question I have is how on earth do the actors work in the strobe section. They must have to take breaks or you would go mad.

I've often wondered that. Do they wear special contact lenses that dampen the effect of the strobe lights?

Re: Scarefest

So far with the queue times as they have been for Scarefest. What would you say is the best route for going round on the rides? At the beginning of the season it wa a best to go with Galatica due to the throughput and working clockwise around the park but now that the throughput is much better. Wha...

Re: Scarefest

Hi all, I noticed when booking mazes we have 1 timeslot for all 3, and you go through them all straight after one another? I was sure last year while given a timeslot we was told we can go whenever we wanted. How's it like this year? Can someone be so kind to tell me please? :D If you do indeed do ...

Re: Duel and the Gloomy Wood - A future?

On Merlin's budget? Forget it. They would never pump 35 million+ into a dark ride. And anyway, Transformers is a lot better than Spiderman anyway! ;) Haha well true, but Transformers was being built when I was there and I've not been back since ;) I agree that £35m+ is probably too much, but if DBG...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

Nothing fell from the train, if anything did it would have been a loose belonging. All the news sites are already on it though. Every article I've seen is incorrect in some way. Yeah one of the ITV updates say that people were left dangling for 30 minutes. Well last time I went on The Smiler, ...

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

Question. At the park today a guest who had boarded the train pointed out a 'loose bolt' on the train, this turned out to be a mis-alignment of the coloured marks that the engineers put on when they do the checks. The ride ops emptied the train, looked at the bolt, sent the train around and then lo...

Re: Alton Towers Resort - Quick Questions

Who voices the line on Rita "Keep your head back, hold on tight. You must escape! Go go go!"? And is it the same person who is voicing the Mr Kipling sponsor ads in Alphabetical on ITV (5pm) at the moment?

Re: Towers Loving Care

I have heard of a few things happening to Hex but it doesn't seem like anything that couldn't have been done during closed season if they were actually wanting to have it open. As for some of the other attractions, I could see them just remaining closed until they get round to replacing them as see...

Re: Scarefest

With Molly Crowe gone, I assume that Skin Snatchers will go in The Towers. The issue is- the Molly Crowe route didn't have any stairs. I could imagine some kind of fake lift being used to simulate you going into the mine, much like Sub-Terra. You never know, they could use the Sub-Terra ride buildi...

Re: Scarefest

No IPs are going in. However, I think the James Wan films are brilliant - (SAW, Conjuring, Insidious, Dead Silence, etc). Universal are the IP people now - which is a shame - as they once did brilliant original mazes. I am disappointed they're, once again, doing a Halloween Maze, the Exorcist maze ...

Re: Galactica - 2016 Air Re-theme

Went on Galactica for the first time today, didn't have any thoughts or opinions beforehand and no real idea on what it would feel like and what to expect... All I can say upon hitting the brake run at the end was how overwhelmed with emotions I felt, my brain hadn't fully processed what had just h...

Re: Galactica - 2016 Air Re-theme

An interesting article from Digital Spy regarding the operations of Galactica. Galactica Tested: Alton Towers' new VR coaster isn't out of this world The future is here, but is it really the future of theme parks? http://www.digitalspy.com/tech/feature/a789018/galactica-tested-alton-towers-new-vr-c...
