Re: SW8

I was on park today and one of the staff members on the rapids was talking to us about SW8. Two key things he said:
It will be a steel coaster with a wooden theme...

It won't be a world's first, but a UK's first.

Re: The Smiler - General Discussion

As Owen said it's a bit more difficult than that to work out the actual throughput. Now that the Smiler is on four train operation is it loading and unloading simultaneously?

Hopefully they aren't getting bad reviews as this could spell further delays.

Re: Alton Towers - General Discussion

Shame that your phone really doesn't do VR justice, it lacks a high pixel density. Anyway, the Galactica Cardboard VR glasses are the same as the Mk.1 google cardboard. If you want to try it out yourself you can find, and purchase, various styles online.

Re: Towers Loving Care

I'd imagine a lot of the TLC things have to occur when the park is closed. If that is correct I doubt we will see TLC for a while as the park is open pretty much every day. We could see more TLC occur around September/October time - this is just a thought.

Re: Derren Brown's Ghost Train - New for 2016

I'm not surprised the reporter found the ride on Colossus scary, she was seated at the back! That thing is awfully rough, especially at the back...

Re: SW8

After watching the updated POV I was interested in finding out the rough total ride time. I consider 'ride time' to be from when the train is released from the chain, to when it hits the final break run (for LIM/LSM launch coasters the start is being released from the station). The POV shows a ride ...

Re: SW9

Investments across the Merlin parks now follow a 4 year cycle: High, Medium, Low, Low. 2016 for AT is the second Low of the cycle, meaning 2017 should have been the high investment. As it is being pushed back a year I expect for that year to be caught up. This could result in the next large investm...

Re: Alton Towers Resort - Quick Questions

I am thinking of buying a premium Merlin annual pass in the future because of the sale but wanted to know what extras I get with the premium. I know it says so on the website but I mean precise discounts for friends, what discounts of food and drink I get and where the free parking is in Alton towe...

Currently, 5 of the 7 contacted residents do not have any objections the proposals. It's interesting to read their own personal comments. One of the 5 simply states:

Re: SW8

When have Towers ever let us down??!!! (excluding sub-terra of course ;) :lol ) Sub-Terra (as you say) Th13teen (would've been ok if marketed correctly) Rita (It's alright, just a little underwhelming for the "best ride ever") 2016 ride line up = massive let down Removing Ripsaw & Sub...

Re: SW9

With SW8 looking likely to be a family coaster, similar to that of Th13teen, I'd imagine that SW9 will be aimed towards thrill seekers. I expect a larger investment, with a large scale ride, along the lines of the Smiler.

Re: SW8

The POV looks great. However, I am a firm believer that what we see isn't the full extent of the ride. AT has done it before, and they'll do it again. What more are you expecting to happen? On what have they done this before? It looks great, I can't deny it. I just think, as others as said, there's...

Re: SW8

Assuming 24 riders and a 1100 hourly capacity, that's 80-ish seconds between trains. Allowing for wiggle room pulling into and out of the station seems like the time from the start of the lift to the end of the ride could be under a minute. By the plans it looks like the ride will feature a separat...
