Re: The Smiler - Speculation

The attractions trademarked in the last year through the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM) are as follows and in the following order. It’s still no guarantee SW7 will be called Smiler, but there aren’t any others in there to throw us off. They may however put in a late applicati...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

Strong rumors suggest SW7 will be named ' THE SMILER' Merlin have recently trademarked this name. We cannot 100% confirm this will be the offical name, but it sounding very likely.

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

Well we know the Sanctuary is the failed attempted to reabiltate and SW7 is when the experiment finally succeeded. There are plenty of spoilers in the Sanctuay just look for details people ;)

Open gates leading onto roller-coaster track... ;) spotted 3 times before. Everyone makes mistakes, but if you do ever spot this, as it probably happens more than we realise inform a member of staff immediately! You could save someone's life.

Re: Limited Edition TT Pin Badge!

We haven't done it properly for several years due to some of the old team members having a problem with it. However we will hopefully be releasing exclusive TowersTimes merchandise again in the near future.

Re: Indoor rollercoaster needed for alton towers.

In a conversation with JW over 10 years ago, it was on the drawing boards to have a product placement interactive rollercoaster in the black hole tent. It's a shame it got scrapped. I think Tussauds/Merlin may have seen the negative feedback from X:\ at Thorpe and decided against it. I would love to...

Re: Ride Running Costs

Duel running costs won't be that high, as a lot of the lights in there are LED's. Unlike when it was 'The Haunted House'. Having a simular discussion with Mark the other day on park, Rita is probably one of the more expensive rides to run with its launch system. Thirteen will also cost a fair amount...

Re: Th13teen...but Backwards?

I certainly like the idea of having a random drop and launch sequence like the one on Tower Of Terror at Disney. I don't think this would be possible with the current ride system though. The drop element would most probably need redesigning to allow this though, plus throughput would go down. If you...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

In my opinion prices are vastly inflated and include pretty much anything the park can get away with. However you do have to take into consideration the bespoke design. For example SixFlags can pick up a Batman clone for a lot less than something customs made to a parks specification. It always does...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

One last thing I will say on the matter... I tried to arrange something for the beginning of next season, offering Alton Towers tens of thousands for quite a small exclusive event for the loyal members who have stayed with us on TowersTimes, it really wouldn't have put them out to arrange, but they ...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Nope nothing more than normal, TT is a hobby not a money maker for us. At the moment we don't have any adverts as Alton Towers refused to pay us through the advertising company they were using because of our close affiliation to the business. However other themeparks are often eagar to advertise wit...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Monkeyboy its difficult to say really, we have at least 2 companies taking photos for us and some of the team will also be taking flight lessons ourselves, however it is weather dependent. At this time of year some of the shots might be awful and we might not even be able to view the site. I might b...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

jb19852 we are simply delivering theme park news. The only people who will see anything are people who choose to look. We are in 2012 now not 1992. Things have changed and the Internet has taken on a whole new precedence. Trust me we have tried to work with AT to organise other events. Rather than b...

Re: End of year sale.

Alton Towers do need to make a profit. It's not cheap to run a theme park, especially she you have to invest in new rides every year.
If we were to get a further 20% off I imagine that would totally wipe out there profit margin.

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

We will be able to get pretty close, and from angles never seen during a coaster construction before. Its your choice if you wish to view the images or not. However, we are a fan site not affiliated with Alton Towers and will always refuse to be the official fan site due to restrictions that could b...

Re: The Smiler - Construction Discussion

Guys and Girls, as I'm sure you are fully aware we will be bringing you full coverage of SW7 over the closed season. Can you guess one of the ways? I know it’s quite a puzzler! We have commissioned several companies to take photos from an angle not seen before in UK theme park construction. Exciting...
