Re: Thorpe Park 2012: The Swarm and General Discussion

I'm not really sure what's going on with the low guest numbers at Thorpe - Towers was packed when they added Thirteen but I've only seen Thorpe busy once so far this season.  Bad weather hasn't helped - I've been there on a couple of soggy Sundays and it's been deserted, but it was fine the wee...

Re: Do you fall quicker on Oblivion than you would falling yourself?

The speed of impact is the square route of 9.81 * height Not quite right - the speed is given by the square roof of (2 * g * h), which gives a theoretical speed of around 73mph. This doesn't help answer the question though, as the acceleration is not constant due to the track gradually leveling out.

Re: Chessington World Of Adventures: General Discussion

Presumably the entire back third of the park is closed off until that time then?

That's a fairly sweeping move - over half of the headline rides and a significant number of staff who'll be affected.

I might be wrong here, but wasn't there a golf course in there about 10 years ago?

Re: 2012: Neglect, decay - demise?

Chessington's toilets have all been referbed this season. The managment have said that mothers with children will judge an attraction on how nice it's toilets are. Define refurbed, because it would take REPLACEMENT to render the majority of Chessie's toilet facilities adequate (save Transylvania an...

Re: Do you fall quicker on Oblivion than you would falling yourself?

Interesting question, but I honestly don't know.  In a vacuum, the human would hit first as obviously Oblivion isn't quite vertical and therefore would accelerate very slightly slower, but throw in air resistance and it becomes a lot more interesting.  In theory a heavy object falls at the...

Re: Could Rita be Launched... BACKWARDS???

We're not talking about changing the launch in any way, only changing the direction the trains (and riders) face. As others have mentioned, I don't think it would be too much of a technological challenge aside from where the train engages with the catch car (which wouldn't work if you simply turned ...

Once again a certain Yorkshire park is quick to jump on negative news from AT:

Re: Off Peak Closure of SkyRide and Other Cuts

I'm guessing this is because they've seen our reactions to what they've done at Chessie and Thorpe, and know we wouldn't stand for any Alton rides being closed until mid day. Cowards. ...but they already know what the reaction to this will be - they've tried it before and the backlash was absolutel...

Re: Off Peak Closure of SkyRide and Other Cuts

I've started a draft of an email to Merlin.  So far it includes cutbacks, up-selling and lack of maintenance across their UK parks.  It'll take a bit longer to get right as I'm trying to come across as concerned/constructive rather than just raging about everything as that won't really ach...

Re: Off Peak Closure of SkyRide and Other Cuts

They have my money from my annual pass, but I will be tightening the strings still further when at all Merlin attractions.  No merch, no photos, no fastrack, own food.

Merlin are destroying the UK theme park industry.

Re: Lightwater Valley: 2013 developments

According to a poster on VM who seems to know what he's talking about, there are currently no plans for that site - they're just moving the marquee to a more suitable location.

Until/unless we have any reason to suggest otherwise, I 'd advise against getting too excited about this one.

Re: Thorpe Park 2012: The Swarm

I'm mystified as to why so many enthusiasts not only don't think Saw is Thorpe's best coaster, but think it's their worst! Haven't we all been crying out for years in the UK for an exceptionally themed, very long, very intense thrill coaster with a dark ride section and pops of airtime? My issue is...

They do - on one of my rides some of the lights didn't go out and I saw one of the other towers drop a second or two before mine did.

Re: Merlin Parks Quick Questions

Chessington has been owned by the Tussauds group since 1978 when the group was acquired by Pearsons (which already owned the Zoo).  Alton Towers was bought in 1990, and Thorpe Park in 1998.

Re: Lightwater Valley: 2013 developments

The tractor ride is going next to Eagle's Claw - it's already half built and was due to open this year but got postponed for some reason. I'm wary about getting excited about any new additions at LWV for that exact reason.  Much though I love LWV, it's hard to get excited for possible new coast...
