Re: Submission & Enterprise: Closed (SBNO) for 2012

I still think everyone's being a bit harsh on AT for this one. If you look at the SW7 construction site: http://img814.imageshack.us/img814/1992/82293007.png And note the access road, under the Oblivion track, that the planning document states will be necessary for transporting large items (presumab...

Also, when people we're asking, 'why where the drop towers are, is it lower than the centre'.

When the drop towers are in place, will they be concreted in, to hide the base?

They may well be concreted to help support the base....

Re: Alton Towers Waterpark - Refurb 2012

I'm guessing it'll be a PIN system.  When you put your coins in, you set a 4 digit PIN.  You can then re-enter the PIN as often as you like until you end the session and get your 1 pound back.  It's reasonably common.  It also eliminates the lost key/token problem.

EDIT

Nothing to see here, it's not like I committed my own most hated thing of posting something that had already been posted and discussed at length  ;)

Re: Alton Towers Waterpark - Refurb 2012

The wording on the website says: Lockers are available at the Waterpark to store your valuables. You will require 2x £1 coins and £1 will be refunded when you have finished with your locker. The 'when you have finished..' sort of suggests that you'll be able to open and close the locker until you're...

I've been following this tread for 5 and a half years, and every time there are new posts, particularly during close-season,  I think, 'ooh, maybe something is finally happening'.

It never is.

Re: Submission & Enterprise: Closed (SBNO) for 2012

In terms of the wider general public, I don't see how it would benefit the park to open the rides for the best part of 2 months in the season, as construction is rumoured to start somewhere around early summer if planning consent is given. Opening the rides for even a small portion of the season wo...

Re: 2012 ticket price is £42

I think they need to scrap the BOGOF vouchers,  and try and get the public to see Alton Towers as a premium product, and not a cheap discounted day out that it has become.  I really do think that AT's current multi-tier pricing system is the best for everyone. Effectively, there are sever...

Re: Submission & Enterprise: Closed (SBNO) for 2012

Let's not forget that if these rides are closed "for budgetary reasons", at the same time, and right next door, the most expensive attraction Alton Towers have ever built is being constructed.  The cost savings of closing Enterprise and Submission pales into insignificance against thi...

Re: 2012: Nemesis Sub-Terra... Part 2

Some lame ride mechanism, where the focus of the entire ride will be some effect happening in the middle. You know what this ride reminds me of? The Haunting at Drayton Manor. You know what it reminds me of?  Hex.  I think the Hex ride mechanism on it's own wouldn't be particularly thrill...

Re: Submission & Enterprise: Closed (SBNO) for 2012

If this is the case, surely it'll be related to SW7 construction. The covering letter of the planning doc says that for delivery of larger items, the access road between Submission and Oblivion will be used.  I was wondering if they'd do that:  keep X sector basically as a pathway to Obliv...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

What a stunning recreation!  Fantastic work! The most positive thing for me, is that even as shown in the recreation, without any theming or detail on the station building, is that this ride *looks* great.  I was worried that it would just be a mass of supports and would look just 'plonked...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

I'm sure it's a Gerstlauer: ⋅ The plans say it's the same manufacturer and type as Saw ⋅ The track layout looks very like a Gerst Euro-Fighter, particularly something like Takabisha ⋅ The forum mods here are all sure it's a Gerst, and that's good enough for me. "Bu...

Re: 2011 / 2012 Closed Season - Resort Updates and Improvements

Boring post about a post alert The point I am making is whenever they "improve" something it's never done to the standard it originally was! The best examples are the Wacky Waterworks in the Waterpark, the Splash Landings water feature and now this. And to add to it, the column didn't eve...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

Just to say, I saw a huge crane in the X-Sector area of the park,  when i was on the bus home from school. :) Probably something to do with winter maintenance. Might be adding or removing trains from Oblivion. Best case scenario is they're already repainting Oblivion, to spread out the workloa...

Fantastic post!

Does it deserve a spot in the SW7 sub-forum?  It would certainly make more sense there, as it's as much about the past as the future....

One other point I wanna bring up and ask you all to comment on is this... Why was there not so much as a squeak about X-Sector as a location for SW7? Or was there, and I missed the memo? I figure if anyone knew of such a rumour, it's someone here... Haha. X-Sector was not originally planned to be t...

Re: The Smiler - Speculation

Bit late to this, but just to say: Thanks Alton! What a difference from when we first saw the plans for Th13teen, which, on paper, looked desperately dull, and the mood here was split between pretty downbeat, and desperately trying to look for the positives ("maybe it goes upside down on the in...
