Re: 2012: Nemesis - What Lies Beneath... Part 2

So I'm pretty sure those metal railings around the hole are each 2m wide, and there are 7 of them across the length of the hole, which means the hole is 14m x 14m.  That's a pretty decent size..

Re: Which AT ride would you ride for 24 hours straight?

The Skyride.

Peaceful, comfortable, a bit of room to stretch your legs, lots to look at out the window.

You might even be allowed to nip for a quick wee at the station.

Aah, I'm so practical.

Maybe that's what this ride is about: The Alton Towers research team have dug down into a catacombs alongside Nemesis, and have found - buried in a box since 1994 - a big box marked 'The Magic'

Re: Oblivion - Now sponsored by Fanta

I don't mind it! Clearly a compromise had to be reached with Fanta, when all the sponsorship that had just been put up got pulled down again. And if this is the compromise, I'm happy with it! It's kind of random, but it looks quite cool, is clearly quite temporary, and just sits on its own, without ...

Re: 2012: Nemesis - What Lies Beneath... Part 2

OK, so basically this is the greatest thing ever. Nemesis, as we all know, is pretty much the greatest rollercoaster in the world. This is partly because it is really thrilling and intense, but it's partly because of the THEMING. It has an amazing, proper back story, and a really exciting, original ...

Re: 2012: New Attractions

I'm not sure I really understand all the comparisons with TH13TTEEN: OK, so they both have an element of 'drop' in them - but - vertical or not - just about every thrill attraction has an element of sudden descent to it. To me - the more obvious comparision is Hex - a dark indoor flat attraction tha...

Farewell LavaLump

Oh, Lavalump You were born in UgLand In 1999 Back when UgLand had a cohesive prehistoric theme. I never went on you Because you had to pay And you were for children. When Rita Queen Of Speed arrived You moved to Forbidden Valley Where you never really fitted in And now you are gone To make way for s...

Re: 2012: New Attractions

So when do people think we will start to see signs of work happening, will it be before November when the park closes? And do we think there will be any kind of adverts around the park about whats coming next year anytime soon? I think they'll start digging a hole the moment planning permission is ...

This was linked in the thread about sellling Fastracks: ALTON TOWERS TACKLES QUEUING HEAD ON WITH WORLD FIRST "VIRTUAL QUEUE" SYSTEM When it opens for the 1999 season on March 24, Alton Towers the UK's number one, will be the first theme park in the world to truly begin to tackle one of th...

Re: 2012: New Attractions

I'd be pretty surprised if that plan was fake. It looks real to me. And I don't buy the issue with the lifts going nowhere - as said elsewhere, I read the plan as being a single level, split over two heights - therefore I think it's fine to show on a single plan. If it's a fake, I don't really get t...

Re: AP Discount - Not Happy!

Yeah, I dunno - allowing you to book extra rooms sounds like a very generous bonus offer to me: I think it's reasonable to expect that only the passholder should benefit from annual pass savings - not people staying in other rooms. It's great if AT are allowing discounts for other rooms, but I would...

Re: 2012: New Attractions

I think it's a great idea for AT to use a shipping container for a shop: Theming - there have been lots of 'found' structures in forbidden valley (the Ripsaw cabin, the old Nemesis Nosh van - fits in well with the theme. Authenticity - walking from an attraction into a purpose built retail structure...

Re: 2012: New Attractions

I think we can pretty much count out any major excavation for a 2012 attraction: They'd have had to have started months ago. Remember how long it took to dig the hole for Th13teen?
