The Haunted Hollow

Mon Feb 05, 2007 5:42 pm

Does anyone know anything about this new Haunted Hollow for 2007 and what it actually is? I haven't heard much about it and Im presuming it's going to be placed around the Gloomy Wood area of the park next to or near Duel? :?

The only thing we know so far is:

New! Haunted Hollow - Dare you take the short-cut through the haunted wood??
Fearless families visiting Alton Towers will be able to brave a visit to the Haunted Hollow, IF they dare to take the short-cut to Forbidden Valley. Located in an area of Alton Towers’ ancient and wild woodland, the sinister trail will take visitors on an eerie adventure rooted in the history of the Park and its original inhabitants, whose ancestors are buried within its grounds.

Those who dare to be scared can visit the long forgotten ancestral tombs which lie deep in the undergrowth. Gothic tombstones come to life, open vaults echo with the spine-tingling sound of cackling corpses, strange ghostly figures appear from nowhere, alongside headless statues and creaking carriages. Expect the unexpected; this walk is definitely not for the faint-hearted!

Aren't they building this thing where the old railway station was, and the path will follow the railroad?

You can see the old station and pathways when looking into the woods from the path leading into forbidden valley (exciting gloomy wood). I've often wanted to go poking around that old station but there seemed to be no access to it. I cant remember how you get to it. Is there a pathway behind the games building near Skyride?

I would love to see some development round Gloomy Wood. It would be fantastic to hgave some more tehre. What about the possibility of a ghost train following the old track route? That would be cool.

The ways in are usually closed except for certain quiet times in the season. It depends how cheeky you are whether you'll go in there mid season or not. The area near FV skyride is a decent starting point from one direction. There are others. I wouldn't advise going in there when gates are locked though :)

im sure i sujested that that path was going to be used for this a while back. :? lol.

it could be really well done. i hope that the money they saved having to actualy build a whole new path will be wisely reinvested into the projct in other forms, as oposed to just leaving the fairy lights that are already there up.

if this "attraction" is done well imagion it during fireworks and other late night events. walking along that path is somehow kinda spooky as it is. if they do something to increase the spook factor a biit it will rock. i cant wait :D

Was on a guided tour of the towers on Saturday and tour guide Dan indicated that management are being very secretive about the Haunted Hollow. He knew plenty about the Dung Heap but little is known about the Haunted Hollow.

Couldn't confirm or deny Terror of the Towers this year though but did admit fireworks event was being looked at but hasn't been cancelled yet.

Holograms wont be used - this is 2007 not 3007! They will most likely use a Pepper's Ghost.

Unfortunately this forum doesn't have my favorite Emoticon, so I had to get it from elsewhere....

Sigh... does no one pay attention to site updates anymore?

I'd try checking the TT Homepage.

A bit more info and a look at some of the themeing...

Alton Towers’ visitors will have the chance to take a new shortcut
to the Gloomy Wood this season but there’s a sinister twist!
Entitled the Haunted Hollow, they’ll have to brave Gothic
tombstones coming to life, open vaults echoing with the sound of
cackling corpses, strange ghostly figures appearing from nowhere,
alongside spooky statues and creaking carriages.
The new £250k eerie walkway, targeted at families, is due to be
ready for Park opening and is set along the old miniature railway line.
Park Marketing Analyst Matt Martin is the Project Champion. He
said: “The ghostly experiences are based on fictional site legends so
it will be uniquely Alton Towers. It will be a fantastic addition to the
Park offering and quite unlike anything we already have."
