Personally, I think it's one of the biggest mistakes the park has made. It's a fairly easy one to rectify though..

:D[/quote]

Hmm, that's true. Perhaps we should create a petition to have the music return. After all, SkyRide seemed to be absolute rubbish without the music. Just silence, and silence at a theme park isn't what you want!

I really don't see what possible gain the management thought they could get out of removing one of the best known musical pieces ever made.....

They have just lost, as many of you have said already, one of their key marketing tools and replaced it with, well, nout...

People say the management care and are passionate about the park and creating a better future for it but how on earth do you expect anyone to believe that when they remove some of the best, and most loved aspects of the park such as this, which everyone knew and loved -

Must admit ITHOTMK = Alton Towers... it's sad to think its no longer going to be associated to the next generation of visitors.

I throughly agree with Morgano, the next generation of visitors are going to be baffled. 'Where has that infamous Alton Towers tune gone?'

I think this thread really shows the passion amongst all of us, of how much we'd like to see this fantastic piece of music return to Alton Towers.

Keep your thoughts coming, folks!

Anyone who doesn't think the song is associated with AT need just look at:

All of these adverts use In The Hall of the Mountain King. People could not associate it with ANYTHING else! The adverts since 2005 have been really quite poor compared to all the above.

I think it really did bring that happy feel around the place and worked amazingly well on advertising campaigns and what not.

It is something which maybe should be brought back to the park subtedly and used in a variety of ways. I think it would be best to modify it slightly to work on different adverts e.g. like they did with splash landings ad. They modified it so that is was caribbean.

Ry.

I'm going to echo everyone else's comments about the loss of probably one of the best aspects of Alton Towers. All the times I've visited over the last 4 years it's always been great to hear it (along with the Towers Street music) on the Skyride and of course on adverts, but it's sad that the management think it's a good idea to get rid of it.

Whatever happens, we'll always associate ITHOTMK with AT and I'll keep humming it at work - which I seem to do quite a bit! :D

The sheer amount of yes votes to a poll like this shows just how important this tune was.

As has been done in the past, the tune can be remixed into lots of different genres to suit various themes and situations. It's still recognisably Alton Towers even after an absence and cool be easily incorporated into the companies corporate image. Infact I hope the AT brand does orientate itself back around to the mysterious, magical qualities that this song symbolises.

Make the park seem much more out of the ordinary again, make people want to explore it and prompt childrens' imaginations, rather than presenting some mediocre stuff that's labeled as 'fun' and adorned with multicoloured stripes so it stands out.

It all boils down to substance and quality yet again.

I hope the park notice this topic when they browse the forums next. It would just put across our passion for this bit of music.

Its a problem can be easily changed!

Its like the Maccy D's whistle at the end of the adverts. Alton Towers had their Mc Donalds whistle, there was no need to get rid of it.

You can take the Nemesis music. You can take the Rita playlist. But please please please bring back ITHOTMK!

The only places you can still hear ITHOTMK is on Dino Derby, Mutant Racers and in the Extraordinary Toilets where now and again a man whistles it from one of the cubicles. I would love it to make a full return back to the park when it was known as "The Alton Towers Theme" by everyone.

Definitely would love for it to be bought back. It just sums up Alton Towers for me and always will do, whether it is still there or not. It's been associated with the park for so long and to get rid of such a well known tune is quite silly IMO. The new music is good, but compared to ITHOTMK it really isn't anything special at all.

It was always the best theme park music in my opinion and the feeling that I used to get walking down Towers Street and hearing it was utterly magical.

What would you rather have? A woman making random breathing noises with random shots of kicker wheels and candy floss and if you're lucky a girl blowing bubblegum...

OR a top class advert with ITHOTMK playing in the background or playing around the park? Enough said i feel! :D

Last time i went to Alton Towers in June over 20 people were humming the tune throughout the day either in the queues or walking past. 5 people whilst looking at the T.V.'s in the monorail queue asked "Where has the Alton theme tune gone you know the (start humming)". Why take away something that was so sucessful? It's like M&S taking away their "This isn't just ordinary plum tomatoes, these are freshly washed..." you get the picture :P. M&S are the most successful people with their adverts because everyone INSTANTLY knows it without having to think! This is exactly the same with the use of ITHOTMK! C'mon Alton even my best friend asked me where has that tune gone (and that is saying something)...something has to be done.

It is not just the enthusiasts or regular visitors that have noticed the music changes. Had a chap from work, who visited for the 1st time in 3 years recently, tell me about his day, and ask me "what the hell have they done to all the music, it's not a patch on what it used to be".

He is one of a few non regular visitors who have mentioned things like that to me in the past few months.

I do find it odd that two people could vote no, but then there are masses who have voted yes. I think this shows the opinion is vastly swayed to the 'bring it back' side of things.

They probably don't know what ITHOTMK is or the management have logged in.

Imagin the 2008 season, 1st day.

You enter the Monorail building to be welcomed by the sounds of In the Hall of the Mountain King.

It would be the best move by the park and most promising start to a season for a very very long time!

Im guessing new managment new ideas was the reason for its removal. And a huge, huge mistake it was by taking away what is still known as THE ALTON TOWERS THEME TUNE to a alot of the uk.

And a great tool for Marketing ITHOTMK was, soon as that hit your TV screen it had your attention. Every advert since 2005 has been poor basically lasting on TV screens for weeks before being taken off.

The so called 2007 FUN!! :?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcaHkHa7E5w

The 90s MAGIC!! :D :D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8RrbkTzxgnQ

Managment need to reconsider the use of ITHOTMK bringing it back in use in my opinion would hugely benefit the park marketing wise, making it back into what was a Magical, Dark, Sinister place. And basically grabbing peoples attention once more and pulling the crowds.

I have heard a lots of people over the years mention ITHOTMK as the Alton Towers Theme Tune. Funnily enough just last monday in Chessington as me an sammie where in the Bubbleworks queue and overheard a group of girls infront of us talking about alton Towers. And one girl said I love the music at Alton Towers, and that theme tune, the other said something along the lines of yes it sounds so Classical and amazing. :P

BRING IT BACK!!
