Righteo.

The monorail is now closed.

It smells really bad around the area, like wood is burning.

The staff are practically ushering you away from the forbidden valley part by the car park.

And they can pretty much confirm it's the skyride because they can't see anything going on with the rides.

:(

To be honest I think this is going to finish the skyride off. Maybe we could see a major revamp using insurance and ride funding money.

Quick Question - Was the skyride being used at the time?

The skyride is closed at dusk due to no internal lighting so to answer your question, no it wasn't in use at the time.

Agreed. I think the Sky Ride is pretty much dead now.

What they'll do to her, I don't know. Best case scenario is for them to go ahead with the long overdue motor and operating system overhaul and station rethemes/new gondalas. It really should be high in the priority box, especially now.

Ended one season with a 4 hour breakdown - and now with a fire :( Poor thing. She needs love! Give her love Merlin!

No, fortunately during Scarefest the ride closes at 4ish I think, due to low lighting levels. If there was to be a breakdown that required evacuation, it would be very difficult to do in the dark!

The last 3 times I've been to Alton the Skyride has been out of action - is it on it's last legs?

Is this fire still going on now? I hope people are OK.

I rekon she will get pulled down over the closed season and they will build a more modern system using the insurance money and should hopefully be ready for 2008 :( :(

They cant get rid of her... if anything they'll update her. Skyride is one of the handiest things in the park, getting rid of it would be idiosy!

I'm just pleased no one was on the ride! Has been a bit weary for a while though now hasn't it, maybe with this we will finally see them upgrades.

Not exactly the best place for something to catch fire  Going to be awkward to get down to there. Fingers crossed as Liam said that most of the trees are damp :x

The insurance money (if it is properly insured), would not even cover the cost of building one station nowadays never mind a completely new and modern system. They are extremely expensive to install.

No offence, but since when have you been the forum police?

Anyway, we have more important things to worry about, than trying to be 'the boss'...

No, they solely rely on local services but the local service are trained to deal with these situations and much more. Only during last closed season did they carry out a mock terrorist attack on the towers with a few hundred volenteers and most of the park staff.

The thing about an 'update' is that it will completely blow the budgets for elsewhere next season. Investing in the Sky Ride will cost them a lot of money (which is why they've kept holding it off) - I think we'll see a Sky Ride-less season much sooner than we'll see the ride mending/updated in 2008. And, to reference to Alton's ignorance to fixing the Monorail, going as far as considering abolishing Towers Street, we might see a Sky Ride-less Alton Towers generally?!

But Muggins in right, we don't actually know the real issue so, let's not make crazy assumptions about the future .
