Urban Exploring The Towers

Fri Jan 04, 2008 12:02 am

Many of you may be familiar with a new trend called Urban Exploring.

Basically people sneak into abandoned urban buildings to have a poke around whilst obeying some golden rules:

Take nothing but photos (don't steal)
Never damage the property - leave it as you found it.
Never break and enter - only enter if you have found a way in that doesn't involve actually breaking in. Basically the only crime is tresspassing and only because they're curious - they harbour no ill intention whatsoever.

Occaissionally people doing this hobby manage to get into high profile places - one has climbed to the top of the Severn Bridge, another The O2 and the most amazing was The Big Brother house!

Now... they've only gone and done Alton Towers!

OMG, Tim bloody did it! Haha legend!

I recommend for anyone to go on a 28days later meet-up, they are crazy. Love that forum.

Shows Altons security presence for all its glory!

If I wasn't connected with this site I'd do it!

I admire them because although it's technically tresspassing, they do no damage at all, rather open up some fantastic, unusual views of the great and the hideous products of human creation, for all to see.

Awesome images Tim and Access!

Knew it would only be a matter of time before they did end up doing the place. I don't think I'd have the guts to get into a place like AT myself, but some of the pictues are absolutely amazing.

I have done a tiny bit of it before though when I had a drive up to Steetley Magnesite in Hartlepool. Those who've been on 28 days later will know it as the chemical factory with those bright blue pools of water/chemicals in them. Awesome stuff :D

The Security Guards can't be watching every single camera at once. And people that go Urban Exploring will rarely go infront of a camera. It would just be chance that a security guard will be looking at the right camera at the right time

Yeah you could never say that keeping a place like Alton Towers safe is gonna be easy and these people have been caught but i have to say they do a great job of getting fantastic pictures, i especially like that ones of the Asylums, they catch some great, atmospheric pictures

I've always been a bit unsure what I think of this, to be honest. Part of my thinks it'll just encourage people to brake into sites, and if the "wrong" type of people start getting into it, then things could go horribly wrong, and stuff vandalised and all sorts. On the other hand, I love some of the pictures they come up with and I bet it's a real load of fun waltzing round a massive park like that in the dead of night.

lol Wes, what more can they do?
The fact they spotted them that night and came to look for them suggests that security is already very tight.

I think its a great idear. I know someone localy who does this type of thing. As long as they dont damage or remove anything i think its fine and would consider doing this myself sometime. :)

I really wouldn't advertise that you would consider breaking into Alton Towers sometime, on an Alton Towers forum.
