cant ever remember seeing that in any of the plans.

Rita probably wouldn't be allowed a loop as it would be unsafe and could give people whiplash.
It would be brilliant though if it did.

But no I don't think RITA is ever getting a loop. Are you maybe thinking of the new corkscrew monument?

The Ug Land sign has indeed gone, but so has CLoud Cuckoo Land...

It is one of those 'Hmm' moments... :-k

If you look at the picture both the UG land and cloud cuckoo signs share a bracket to attatch it to the pole. It is therefore likely in storage waiting to be re-attatched with the new Dark Forest signage before the season begins, also this part of the park was closed when this picture was taken so no need to keep it up there.

Talk about scrutiny! I love it!

The main evidence for them having a re theme are reduced priced Rita merchandise and this sign change...as well as the fact that they would be insane not to.

Alton also chose not to re-register the UG Land trademark when it expired in 2008, then requested its removal in May last year http://www.ipo.gov.uk/t-find-number?detailsrequested=C&trademark=2180753

Interesting. Goddess of Speed? Has Dark Forest been planned for a while? Is this the new name? =O.

It was registered along with "Rita Queen of Speed" and "Speed Fiend", so looks like it was just an alternative name that they were toying with.

Speed Fiend was used on some merchandise, so Goddess of Speed could have been for a planned t-shirt/hoodie slogan.

EDIT to add: Forgotten that in each record you can see what the names are registered for. As I suspected, Goddess of Speed is not registered for a ride (just T-shirts, sweatshirts; footwear; headgear, caps.). If so, it would have fallen under "Class 41: amusement park services; theme park services; recreational and leisure ride services"

Ithink what you might have seen was the plans with an overlay of the corkscrew on them.

I doubt that is going to happen, the corkscrew is going to the entrance and the rest has been used to create the tree for TH13TEEN

Interesting to see that Stealth is registered for Alton Towers and not Thorpe Park:
http://www.ipo.gov.uk/types/tm/t-os/t-f ... rk=2410106

Aside from that (and more importantly, back on topic), I would like to see theming in the Dark Forest like the tree on the front of the station building e.g. shops, with roots poking out here and there. In the queueline, something to build tension and fear, hinting at the hidden section - for example, if there is a demon or spirit, then the occasional sound effect, gust of air, or props related to the ride's story. Perhaps instructional videos if this is a dangerous adventure.

What i meant was that somewhere on one of the plans the corky elevations where shown in one colour and thirteen in another so ppl could see what was there originally

Iwould love to see it as Dark Forest. the Ug Land sign gone...why would they do that? It's not like you are going to revamp a sign, so the whole area must be rethemed. Well I hope so :D

It says goddess of speed on my Rita mug from 2005, so no name change there.

I recently had what i thinhk would be a good idea to theme the new 'Dark Forrest' arround, how about having the dark forrest as an abandoned village in which the staff who once worked within the towers when it was a home lived, as like on site accomadation for them. The station buuilding for TH13TEEN could have been something similar to the flag tower, but with supernatural powers, and one by one the staff were dissapearing into the forrest never to be seen again...
The dark forrest could be themes to look very neglected, and only a few remain in the village...living the life they one had as poor workers, the whole area could have a slight gypsy feel to it, and slightly bohemian feel to it. i think the soundtrack to the new Sherlock Holmes film composed by the legendary Hans Zimmer could compliment this theme rather well...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iigg8oLQkvQ could be used as ambient music to be played throughout the dark froest...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2N3urCXhEqs could be a possibly main soundtrack to TH13TEEN itself... especially at about 1:20 i get the felling of something disorientating and quite strange indeed...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NqFVC5N0dPQ could be used as a soundtrack for Rita after her referb as it has a higher tempo to go with the rides theme, again at about 26 seconds in is when i feel it realy 'kicks'

So what y'all think? please note: this musical style would only go well with the idea of my theme, think if the whole lot is gothic we will nedd something very dark and sinister to go with the theme and rides. :D

I disagree with you on this one...

Whilst the towers were built in the 1800's (i think!) they have a much older feel to them (16th century or before). For this reason I think the music sounds to lively and modern. Don't get me wrong, I love that sound track and it fits the film like a glove! But not for the towers...

I would rather have something not as obvious, more ambient. Maybe a feint sound of a Harpsichord playing that comes and goes... carried by a whispering breeze across the dark forest.

I think music with a fixed tempo that stays in ear shot can relax people... we want a sense of the unknown...

If it's a crypt im guessing they'll be an organ in there somewhere... i suppose it just makes sense

On the subject of ambient sound (actually the faiding harpsichord made me think of this) has anyone played the PSOne game Silent Hill? This uses a similar style. For example when you go past the abandoned school you hear the faint cry of a child. It is very effective, and coupled with surround sound creates a very imersive atmosphere. If this style were incorperated into Dark Forest, coupled with the village idea, we could be onto a winner.

Maybe they could make use of modern sound technology, and have maybe a rushing sound, and billowing cloak noises, running the length of the forest. If timed correctly it would be garenteed to make people throw a glance towards the forest. It would be Blair Witch esque, wherein you know something is there, but you can't see it, leaving the mind to draw it's own conclusion.

One thing the area should not have is a entire piece of music (like Ug Land did) as this would really ruin the feel in my opinion. I would say just keep it to subtle sound effects.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there! There's no game that creates a tense atmosphere like Silent Hill...

This would definitely be a winner in my eyes...

If you haven't played silent hill check this out:...

I wonder if they're having nice, ambient lighting in the area rather than hideous floodlights? It's always hideously over-lit at Alton Towers when the park opens after dark.

I hope they would but after the power cut this Scarefeast I can understand why they rent out the Generators each year. Is it worth building lights with their own generators if they are only used for 2 weeks in the year?

Yes. Then the park can hold evening events, be it entertainment or an exclusive Hotel Guest ERT etc. in the evenings.
