Hmm, I really hope that this isn't going to get over hyped :P

The worlds ultimate Rollercoaster? Unless we see something truly epic somewhere, I reckon anybody who's been to the US will be a tad disapointed

too late.
Except maybe the Harry Potter theme park I can’t think of any other attraction getting this much hype. I have to admit that most of it is caused by fans showing what they imagine the ride to be like, but after the recent PR stunts most people I have talked to are imagining this as the next Nemesis.

"The Ultimate Rollercoaster"...how cliche.

They should of pushed the "World First" concept

IMO the ''ultimate rollercoaster'' tagline works really well.

Thirteen seems to be much more of a 'standard roller coaster' if you see where I'm coming from (it's not a Dive Machine, Inverted, flying coaster etc.) It has pretty standard carriages and track layout, so I think selling the fact that it is the ultimate ride of this kind is quite cool.

This really hypes up the indoor section to be something special!

The thing with a rollercoaster like Nemmie, just looking at it you realise that it is going to be terrifying. The thing that worries me a little about Th13teen, is that although the theming looks really good, the rollercoaster so far does not have the same visual impact. But I am hoping that when I see it finished in person, that I am wrong.

if you notice all of the posters state: "The Ultimate Rollercoaster" and not "The Worlds First..." which makes me think that this rollercoaster is not a worlds first anymore...

Think what you will!

How can it not be a first anymore? Nothing has been built and opened over the winter, especially nothing that has been in development for two years. It is just the time to stop advertising it as a first and start advertising it as the best. Worlds first was to draw people in early and get them thinking what could it be. Now people are interested and know about it, excite them and draw them in.

Does anyone have a link to the advert that was banned from television until after nine, advertising Thirteen? I really want to see it

Sorry to break this to you, but...

It never existed. It was one of Merlin's promotional stories. Nothing was listed on the website for banned adverts, and it is highly unlikely anyway. It builds hype, but is not real! :P

Their hair may be standing up because of a steep drop, or it may be due to 'extreme terror' and their hair is standing on end in fright.

@Cammy Productions: It's just a marketing thing to create hype, there are no age restrictions, so you won't have to worry :P

simply put, it was more advertising, they may have a suggested age, like saw, but nothing more, loads of people ask about it, so your not alone with wondering, but TTF cracked that flaw when it was first said :P

This is perhaps the most annoying thing about their marketing - the continuous stream of ignorant users who ask the same questions over and over again, taking up mountains of forum pages, instead of reading whats already been posted.

Can TTF not ban those questions, or maybe put up a huge sign on SW6 forum?

A photo from today. As you can see in the background, the scaffolding theming is visible.

Hi,

Its not a scam its a marketing technique. Imagine how much outrage there would be if they banned that age group from the ride! Just ignore it :D

Surley there is no age restriction because the ride is an Intamin FAMILY coaster according to the pictures of early construction - Not meaning for that to sound rude

Marketing horseshit 101:

In order to get yourself free publicity, say something outrageous, quirky or use the celebrity of the moment.

Getting in papers is difficult unless you want to pay for space, which is fairly expensive and will only get you 1 day of coverage at a time. Also, nobody will look at it unless it's something they're interested in.

However, if you say something outrageous, then people will print it. E.g. the age thing. Ryanair are particularly good at this, although it helps that their boss is evil. (see their charging for the use of toilets stories). These are also particularly useful, because not only will the original story get printed, but the story grows it's own legs. Notice how, in the sun, they refer to it as a "psychocoaster" in their stories. It also gets everybody talking about the stories - especially little children who will hear about this, believe it, and then start pestering their parents to visit alton towers. If the company is really lucky, it will get talked about everywhere, getting column inches in opinion columns (seriously, the ryanair one is amazing for this, as it got everywhere, and everywhere had the video of michael o'leary getting across the message that "they are looking for every way to drive down the cost of air travel")

Quirky is a different kettle of fish. Notice how at the beginning of the year, when there was all that snow, and the papers and the news were showing photos of people having fun in the snow. Somehow, during that time, a photo of some workers from thirteen, appeared in a snow shaped coaster car, that was near spinball. Photo was pretty damn good quality as well and managed to get in the papers. I'm willing to bet that in the coming weeks, there will be the biggest piece of horseshit you will ever see (well, second to what's coming in the next paragraph). Some professor will create an equation for what makes a scary ride or whatever. Of course, all the articles will just happen to mention that the professor is working in conjunction with alton towers who are just happening to open a new "psychocoaster" in march. Even if the formula is absolute mathematical bollocks (There was one for the attractiveness of some breasts, which multiplied the whole thing by the number of nip.ples on show - of course by that reasoning, if there's no nip.ples on show, they aren't attractive at all)

Third in our round up of getting in the papers for free; the celebrity of the week. AT got lucky with this one, winner of big brother, and just as they did the press release, he goes and marries the tart of the tabloids. Of course the bullshit prize here goes for where they describe him as expert. The genius bit was that they put him in a coaster that was filled with dummies, allowing the tabloids to have some fun http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sh ... -Ride.html

Some little bits of free marketing for the park in recent times

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/ne ... e-ban.html (this ones brand new, and I have to say, fairly genius. Remarkably good camera, don't you think although I think the star went a little over the top http://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/view/12 ... on-Towers/)

Cool. It doesn't get any more comprehensive than that. :-)

If anyone is interested I have just submitted a youtube video to the Alton Towers first ride competiton. The first one I made seemed too plain and so I decided to abandon anything that resembled fandom and just do one that's a bit stupid...and hopefully fun.

Feel free to take a look.

Great summary of the marketing hype and reasons behind it.

It's a shame this will be buried in this thread soon. Do you think if a mod copied this post to a sticky in the SW6/Thirteen sub-forum, locked it and gave it a title along the lines of "Th13teen age limits/signing wavers/ride once a day - the truth" it would stop all the new kids posting the same question again and again?
