So can we presume that the re-theme will be completed for February half term, seeing as its due to be open? :)

Fantastic news!

Hopefully this will give the ride a new lease of life. I loved old Spinball so hopefully new Spinball will be even better. Sadly it won't help
the massive queues it constantly has.

So long as all the work that needs to carried out is complete, and the ride is technically sound, then i would imagine yes - it will open in February. My only concern is that there's still a lot of painting to do and that no doubt the ride team would need it at the very start of February to do their own staff training, so it doesn't leave much time.

I will of course laugh until my sides split if this "re-theme" turns out to be like something not too dissimilar that of the "Camilla: Queen of Speed" style.

Stuck over vinyl is never attractive, darling

Great news, especially due to the supposed new game this year (Needlemouse? I don't follow Sega), and it being 20 years since the height of Sega as a manufacturer as well as the UK Mega Drive launch. My only worry is that it could make the ride even more tacky than it is right now, but at least it will have an actual theme as well as a slightly nicer colour scheme!

Thank god, this now excuses every time this past few weeks I have got stupidly over excited when seeing a Sega logo or Sonic game in HMV :P

I'm sure all the major structural paint work could be easily done by February. As for signs, they could keep it as Spinball Whizzer for half term and change signs over between the half term and opening day period.

Did the cars in the hotel brochures/welcome pack look like they were due for a major repaint, brand new cars altogether or a simple new livery sticker over the current spinball number (remain silver with black restraints)? Again, if the latter, could be done in that closed period after half term.

Overall though, still not sure what I think about the retheme, despite being a Sonic fangirl when I was younger. Will wait until open season until I decide :)

I think it'll be a relitavely cheap job although I won't pretend that the new colour for the supports looks gorgeous up close. Everything else looked as 2009 though.

In the brochure, the cars were still silver but with Sonic on the side rather than the Spinball logo. That could, of course, be a cheap photoshop job because they don't know what the actual cars will look like - but we'll see!

I certainly doubt we're in for sexual Winja's or Crush's style cars though :(

Great news!

I think now at last the tacky is out and a fresh new look has arrived for Spinball. Maybe we even see a little bit on more theming? Who knows, but what a early treat the park are giving us in time for February?!

There is so much potential here, it really depends on how much money they'll be willing to spend. Realistically what we are seeing is a repaint, replacement of tge silver balls for gold rings, a station re design, new signage, new cars and new sound. What I'd like to see is a complete immersion into what looks like one of the original Sonic levels, with highly cartoony IOA banking that will hide some of the supports

Image

using original sonic images gives it a retro, classic feel to it which is more supportive of Alto 's overal image and would ensure it's relavance. Using newer schemes looks gimmicky and aren't as well known..

It's confirmed, ..BOOOOOO

I dislike sonic the "licence to print money" hedgehog, but also happen to think that a theme from a 16?bit game is not going to go down too well.

I see it as spinball whizzer was a bad move for the park, it looks like it belongs in cred street and the "pinball" theme is inconsistent as the pinball machine's "golden age" was around 1940s 1950s. The music is fairly old and kind of reflects the pinball message but yet the buildings are new "air-esque" type structures. I cant help but feel they would be better off moving it to thorpe and re-erecting it in amity cove.

Lets be honest, the sonic theme is most likely to be a few touch ups and a sonic standing at the entrance like some slimy real-estate agent next to the "heightomiter" to sell the whole awful gimmick. But i suppose what good will come of it is those dire announcements will be banished to the history section of towerstimes forever :D

Gold rings seem like a good idea

Sonic spinball whizzer - I'm not sure about this, it just doesn't seem right! Although the supports do look very nice blue but it's a shame it's not going to be re themed with more imagination but I guess this could just be a quick over haul to keep it looking fresh until they decide what they are going to do with it and the fact they've got SW6 to focus on, I just hope they don't start using cartoon or gaming icons for other re themes in the future. :x

the cars will just be a sticker job it is towers and they dont have a lot of time to turn this around really

i think it will be more fun to que for the ride and the theming that will be around if you like sonic

image no more poor que line games and old skool sega mega drives in the que how amain would that be

like dan said the new blue is amazin up close same colour as the old 10 20 and 30 pins that use to stand up in the aera and ride aera

Are any of our more talented members able to do a photoshop mock up of the new colour scheme?

This whole retheme is just meh TBH.

People are just excited because they loved Sonic in their childhood and when it was in Toyland Tours.

Sorry but this retheme is just one big gimmick - The Flume, CATCF and Peugeot 207 Driving School style!

They got the colours the wrong way around... although I do quite like it that way!

Not sure if they should paint the supports dark blue. I feel it makes the whole ride a bit too dark. Having the supports red really brightens it up and matches the sonic theme better in my opinion
