Could this happen?

Fri Apr 16, 2010 11:46 pm

so - whilst reading http://www.habboxforum.com/archive/inde ... 74695.html - i read

I know last year at Alton Towers, a boy from my school on the trip was on nemisis on the farthest seat out. The daft get stuck his leg out and he banged it on the rock and it bent back. He broke it. F00l. Serves him right really.

is it really laid out so that could happen?

sounds like an urban myth I am sure they allow plenty of room so no one can catch anything on rocks.

What a load of crap! There is definitely no way that this would have happened as there is clearly loads of space between the sides of the track to the rocky edges of Nemesis's pit. Before the ride even opens they have to put a dummy for measurements to see if it is possible for the riders to hit the legs or hands off objects while they are on the ride.

So this is an urban myth like Jem said.

No way this could've happened, unless he/she was about 20 feet tall and even then i doubt it. Trust me if it would of happened one of these guys/girls on the forum would've heard about it. :^o

If it was true it would have been on the news. It's like that rumour that someone was killed on the Black Hole - if it had happened, everyone would know.

Just like to say from experience... they're not dummies, it's the staff that are sent round in the morning!

But as you say, the rocks are far too far away, it's the trees you want to watch our for ;)

What I meant by that statement though was that, the dummies are sent around the ride before the ride was opened to the public just after it had been built back in 1994. Sorry if what I said was taken in a different way to what it was meant.

It couldn't as they do a little something called a reach envelope picture below, to ensure, things like that can't happen.

If you go down to the Towers today, you\'d better ride Th13teen. :P

As already stated above, this DID NOT HAPPEN.
I hear many wild and wacky tales (mainly from children) about harnesses, touching things while on rides, falling out etc. Its all part of their excitement I suppose. If someone gets hurt or killed on their way to a theme park, it's all over the national news for weeks. So rest assured, this did not and could not happen on Nemmie.

Yes, I have seen this on quite a few occassions. Staff going round on the ride with their arms stuck out. Most memorable time being when I saw them doing it on Saw. :P

Anyway... that story is a load of rubbish, surely it would have been a huge headliner in the news. :) I can only imagine that a leaf brushed their leg on the ride and then they simply blew it completely out of proportion. :P Although perhaps Alton need to do a bit of tree trimming. Last year I smacked my arm into a branch (a small one) on air, before the barrel roll. :|

Also, during construction many safety precautions take place to make sure things like this do not happen. :)

This happened just as much as the girl being thrown out of Rita on the first corner, another similar myth that was around a few years ago. Infact this is as true as the Oblivion queue videos saying that cars have gone missing in the tunnel.

I stick my legs out on Nemesis and nothing has come close to me, and they take care so nothing ever could. It's all a load of rubbish and something like this always pops up.

I swear that some people think coaster builders just "wing it" when building coasters. Just whack it in and worry about clearances later

The only theme park i worry about the rides crashing is pleasure beach, to my knowledge only the runaway mine train has had a accident when the train came apart in the middle.
Does anybody else know of any accidents that have happend at AT?(facts not rumours please).

If you sit in the first few rows of Nemesis on the right and stick your right arm out coming into the brake run, it WILL hit the maintenance shed and you will break it and possibly lose it.

Ouch!, if that happens I think they'd have to give you something better than a privilige pass to compensate for it
I'm going to be looking for severed limbs on the track next time I go on it.

I'm convinced that I'll smack my arms when going under the tunnel on the runaway mine train though, not going to risk finding out either

RMT - definitely doesn't have enough clearance at certain points around the track, though I don't think the tunnel is a problem.

Yeah, like if your sat on the left hand side going round one of the bends a few of those support bars look really close, it's daft i dare keep my arms up on rita but not on RMT :!:

I agree. You can stick your hand out and you will be able to touch the odd support however it doesn't really go fast enough for you to cause damage. There is plenty of clearance in the tunnel though. :)

We must remember though, all rides ask for you to keep your arms and legs inside the car at all times. 8-[

Oh it can definitely happen!

I was on Air a few weeks ago and a branch caught me! I had a scratch all down my arm!
