I think when it comes to marketing, Alton Towers seem to be going for the quantity over quality recently. This is just sad.
And I don't buy into the standard TTF line of "well, if it gets them in the papers..."
Yes, this does get them in the papers, but NOBODY is going to book a stay at the hotels on the basis of "Oh look love! They've banned shagging at Alton Towers. Aren't they a modern bastion of dying family values and common morality?" Many of the stunts from the last few years have done nothing but portray Alton Towers as stuffy, uptight, conservative killjoys. I now have images of matronly busybodies patrolling the hotels making sure no 'hanky panky' goes on under their watch.
What next? No unmarried or gay couples allowed to share rooms? No gentleman callers after 10pm? Publicity stunts should be inclusive and make people feel like they will be valued guests. Not inconvenient, idiotic, animalistic fornicators (or fat, worthless blobs if we go back to the infamous Speedo ban).
I'm sure I shall be accused of lacking a sense of humour and 'not getting it', but I get it just fine. I know they don't mean it and it's just there to get them some dirty, hollow column inches. It's just totally idiotic. Not all publicity is good publicity for a household name such as Alton Towers.
Methinks somebody is maybe just going through a little *ahem* dry spell with Mr Angove :P
[size=90]For some things there is no rational explanation. There is no way out. There is no happy ending to this story. Welcome to the unknown. Welcome to eternal darkness.
